Looks like the lake has begun the turnover. What changes can be expected?
It hasn’t finished yet. It’s been mixing for the last 10 days or so. This is what I would call a slow turnover. Usually during a slow turnover there isn’t much of a notable difference in the bite pattern other than the fish will gradually get shallower as the water gets cooler and the bait goes to the shallows to get warm.
Just keep fishing like you normally would trying both shallow water and deeper water till you find the fish that will eat the most consistently…

I would think the strong cold front coming through Saturday, along with the high winds , will finish it off shortly after.

My Thanksgiving turnover guess may prove to be prophetic
Just looked at the latest data. The turnover has definitely reversed a little; however, like Skiff said, the Saturday to Sunday front could complete it.

It was a day for the old timers you remember from the club. Catchall was 1st, Louis Buckwell was 2nd with Team Next Time, and we finished 3rd. We were all between 15 & 16 pounds for the 2 fish weigh-in. Lawcrusher and Liz had the big fish that edge out ours 8.95 to 8.91.

Those are some familiar names. Sounds like it may have been a tough day of fishing. We had our struggles Friday after a decent day wednesday. My dad was out with the crowd Saturday just pulling umbrellas and yumbrellas and got skunked from Ramp 4 on up.

I seen your dad come by us pulling the umbrellas just above ramp 4. I’m not sure how deep umbrellas run but all our fish were caught near the surface pulling herring on planer boards. I didn’t finish as well as Fogman. Guess I should’ve stayed where I was instead of moving down the lake when the wind picked up.

That wind was brutal Saturday, I took the day to take my daughter Christmas shopping and kept the boat on the trailer the weekend.

Funny … After the wind really started to pick up we were pulling U-Riggs in Buffalo during the TX … Managed 8th Place and Big Fish …
That said, the fish we weighed in were caught with planers and live bait … BUT, there were also keeper fish caught in Buffalo using U-Riggs … soooooooooooooooooo … I also know guys who are pulling U-Riggs in Ballentine within the last two weeks and limiting out …
We never pull anything out of the arsenal because you never know when you might need to use it …
But all of that said, the only person I know of to ever win a TX with U-Riggs was Jason Tarlton and that was StriperSkiff’s annual artificial TX
… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Steve Fralish and Randy Dover dominated the NSBA tournaments in 2004 predominately pulling U-rigs and the NSBA changed their rules for the following year to only allow one hooked bait on the rig…

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

I didn’t mean that there was anything wrong with pulling u-rigs, I have them myself but I don’t think I would pull them up in the river. I lost a bunch of them on Clark hill in deep water… They are certainly deadly! I watched Capt Mack pulling them on Hartwell and he was tearing them up.
My personal preference is Blueback herring with some big gizzards! I’ll even throw am Alabama Rig every now and then when I have time.

I appreciate the gesture Lawcrusher… but I’ve never won a tournament pulling u-rigs… we probably should have pulled some Saturday after all our crappy bait died tho…

I’m horrible with names and faces - I thought that was you a few years back that won Tim’s TX … No matter …
I feel your pain with regard to the Shad … We had two dozen Thursday evening … By lines in on Saturday I had three and all three of them died on the line …
I KNOW it’s not my tanks because I put ALL of my remaining Herring from Ned’s Better Bait & Tackle into my basement tank after the TX and I have only lost 8 of them … and that’s after riding around all day long and sharing the 50 gallon with the Stripers we weighed in …
Ned’s bait was (**() near perfect for the TX - the Shad was not even close … While I’m not holding my breath, I do hope that the baitman will make that one right - especially since the prices went up from the week before when he had them …
Just to be clear the shad did not come from better bait and tackle…lol… nor did they come from anywhere local. Just did not want the local shops to get a bad name or let people come up with their own idea of where they come from.
I did hear that everyone that drove to that shop had trouble with the shad living.

Sorry about that … Murrymaker is correct …
Herring came from Ned’s …
Shad was not local to the Lake Murray area …
Those that purchased shad know where it came from and they also know that bad bait is not something that shop is known for …
Just seems like they got a bad batch in for whatever reason …
Dad lost a Yumbrella in 20’ of water. Potentially on a bush.

It definitely looks like a bad batch of bait. I had shad in my tank from 3 different shops. the only ones that died are from the shop referenced. all of the rest are still happily swimming.
