Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone has fished this lake before. Going to be up there for a weekend in July, and was hoping to put something on the fly. Will have access to a pontoon boat on the lake one day, so any advice (lines, flys, locations, etc.) Is much appreciated
never fished the lake… but there are some killer trout streams that dump into it… Look up Eagle Creek, Forney Creek, and Hazel creek… all the trailheads start at the lake… great fishing, and great camping… there is a lot of info out there on these river systems…

Also not far from the Tuckaseegee and Little Tennessee rivers which have smallies and you can wade or float. They are a great fish on fly and trout fishing can slow down in hot dry summer months. Good smallmouth fishin in Fontana Lake too but I am guessing not on fly that time of year, but I don’t know that for sure.
Contact the local fly shop you will be near, Smallies are prime in July, great popper/slider fly fishing. Locate the nearest smallmouth river.
Some good info here for so far, I live about 1 hour from fontana and take my flats boat out there to booze cruise. The lake is about a million feet deep and literally you can be in a cove or cut and be 10 feet off a bank and in 30-50 feet of water, its a man made flooded valley they (**()ed up. Now that said tons of guys fish for walleye with down-riggers and smallies and large mouth in there, especially during spawning season, but the bass spawn on ledges that are 30 feet deep. So I would bring some beer and enjoy the views. What Mike sed about the 3 park streams is correct and worth checking out for sure, also in July the Little Tenn flows into fontana and theres a dirt road that runs algon that river, its wadeable-we use float tubes and its a great smallie river, the tuck a bit farther away u got trout higher up and smallies lower, hit me up if you needs some direction, also call Rivers Edge outfitters, several stores one sorta out near there.
If it swims throw a fly at it!
Hey thanks I really appreciate it!.. Ive been to the lake several times, but never fished it. I knew guys used downriggers, so I thought I was screwed with the fly rod. Anyways I might hit you up before I head up there. Thanks a bunch
