Lake Lanier SBCC Championship tourney

I hear some of the Midlands Striper Club members were in the top two spots after the first day of competition. Chip Bragg (Murraymaker) was the day one leader with Bryan Baire and Van Cook about a pound behind them …The 2-fish weight was around 35 lbs for Chip and he had a 20 lb big fish…Hope they can hold on for a good finish today…Tommy Richardson also had some nice fish there yesterday with a 20 lb fish…

What an awesome 3 day trip. We had 7 fish in 2 1/2 days that totaled 101#. All 7 are still swimming. Seth and myself cannot wait to go back. May even plan a trip in a couple months. Larry at oakwood bait and tackle is super top notch. But all that being said we fell to the day 1 leader curse…hahah…Bryan and Van know about that.

Prefished thurs and had a 20# fish and seth lost one in the trees he couldn’t do much with. From the word around town everyone was going to be in the rivers but we had a big fish bite on the south side and had a decent pattern to go on.

Fri same pattern held and had 5 double digit fish 2 biggest being 13# and almost 22#. Fri night we had a cold front come in and it messed our pattern up big time. And seemed to turn the bite on in the rivers. We could only manage 1 14# fish sat and didn’t catch it till we had moved 4 times and was only an her left of fishing time.

Needless to say me and Seth had our work cut out for us from the go. Hopefully some more people will start fishing the SBCC and we wont be the new kids on the block…lol…We had never seen this lake nor fished it before thurs. But we gave it our best shot and that’s all we could do. We learned a lot and that will benefit at later dates. There is a special feeling up get when targeting strictly big fish.

Yes it was a great trip and tournament for all… Bryan and I were in second place on Friday and as Chip mentioned we did not want to be in “first place”. That has a history of not working out so well for us on day two. Let’s not tell Chip we didn’t weigh in our 30lber Friday just so he could finish first (LOL)… We did drop to third on Saturday with only 20 lbs for the day. We fished up the river with good success Friday, but the mud moved in on us Saturday and forced us to look other places. Lots of bait and birds, but couldn’t find the one big fish we needed to go with our catch. Congrats to all the winners in the SBCC Championship, as well as Saturday’s open tourney. I would also like to invite others from MSC to join in the SBCC circuit, and especially thank Warren and Pam for all their efforts in putting these tournaments on.

Still boat shopping…

OK, so who did win, and with what weight?

Rob Hedrick and Wes Gilmore won the 2 day event with (4 fish) 56.22#

Did not know the guys who won the open on Saturday but they had 36.08#

Dwayne Brandon and Randy Dover finished 2nd in the 2 day event. I think they were less than a pound away from Rob and Wes. Dwayne lives on Lake Murray and Randy is a Lanier local…They won the Big Striper tournament on Sat. with a 22.36 lb fish and 3rd place in the open on Sat. with 34.72 lbs total. You should see the buck Randy killed Thanksgiving day or the day after. It had 19 scorable points

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…

I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
