Lake Moultrie Bank Fishing

Hi, I recently moved to the area of Bonneau Beach and I have no boat so my only option is to fish from the bank unfortunetly. I usually park on the little spot on black oak road where you can walk up to the hill and fish off of the rocks. So my question is…Is there a certain spot on the rocks that is better than other spots (as far as depths, cover, drop offs, etc.) I would appreciate any advice on where to fish on the rocks or even elsewhere else that I can fish from the bank for catfish, bass, crappie, etc.

Fish Guy, where ever you do decide to fish from, keep an eye out for Snakes on those banks, They have some Cottonmouth’s sliding around there!

Oh trust me, I’ve been watching for them. I live really close to the lake and had a 2-3 ft. one in my shed a few weeks ago!

Any help is appreciated! I see all these views but no one responding. haha

Just the other side of the lake from you!

Try fishing the rediversion canal up in St. Stephen. The bridge closer to the dam can be a decent place to fish.

We used to go to Atkins Landing near short stay in the evening. They charged us a few dollars to fish the bank and we would sit there with lanterns and fish half the night. We always did good taking home a mess of catfish. It’s been years since I have done that, but I’m sure they still allow it…

A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.

Yeah I’ve caught some nice fish at Atkin’s as well.

Cool, I’m going to have to learn more about the lake as I don’t hardly know where a lot of these places are located. I appreciate the help so far though!

If you are active or retired military then go to Short Stay in Monck’s Corner. Pay your dollar at the store and head for the back wall. I have landed Blue Catfish up to 30 lbs from the walls around the pump station. Use cut Herring, cut Blue Gill, raw shrimp, or Sonny’s on a pool noodle all rigged Carolina style. The fish get bigger the farther out you are so throw a couple off the pier and put them in the holders also. Good Bluegill and Bass fishing while waiting on a freight train to bust a cat rod…LOL!

Another great spot is on the Cooper River down at the landing off of Highway 52 on Carswell Ln. Fish fresh cut bait on the bottom and hold on for a big one. The IFGA world record from 10 years ago came out of that river.

If you are willing to drive then go up to Lake Marion and go out on the Highway 301 walking/fishing bridge that is next to I95. Throw out cut baits under the bridges and put your rods in free spool. Do not lock them down or you will see them surfing across the water below. Stop at the Santee General store and get live minnows for Flatheads.

Not active military unfortunately unless they offer that to firefighters but doubtful. I am definitely going to try some these places, hopefully this weekend

Ok so went to short stay (they let FF and police in as courtesy) and I’m lost. How do you get to the pump station? I’ve asked ppl around but no one knows.

I do not if u had any luck at short stay, I try to get there once a week or so. I have got a few good slabs in the stumps to the north of the camp ground
I have a small 16 foot john boat, so can get about anywhere on the lake. Let me know if u want to try anywhere, as always looking for someone to fish that area. I am retired, so can go almost anytimr

Fish Guy,

I always use Google Maps/Earth to look at area’s I want to fish/hunt. When you drive into Short stay, stay on the main road and the road will curve right, just past the boat launch…with the store and parking lot on your left. when you get to the stop sign go left. follow that all the way back until you come to the parking area surrounded by villas. to the left you should be able to see the wall, there used to be a bench right near the corner and there are holes in the dirt alond the concrete wall to put your pole in. while standing there, look down the wall to the left and you will see the little dock…i believe the “pump station” is right next to that dock

Thanks! I went there yesterday evening and fished there. Waves were so unbelievably choppy from the strong winds kinda made it a bad day to fish. Just have to keep trying I suppose.

Frank314,
I will possibly take you up on that sometime. Thanks! That’d be awesome.
