Anybody know how to get the permit to fish inside the buoys in front of the dam?
Go to the Santee Cooper Offices located on US Hwy 52 bypass in Moncks Corner. You will need a photo ID, boat registration card, and vehicle license number. It only takes a few minutes.

You can get a permit very easy by using the advice/instructions mentioned above. However, thanks to the stupid lawmakers, we can NOT fish inside the buoys. We can go in there and catch bait all night/day long. As soon as you try to catch a game fish, SLED will be out there on your 6. It is crazy that you can go in there, idle around or tie up to the hydro wall, but can not drag a lure or live bait fish! It makes NO sense!!!
I was told by a friend, that was told by one of the guards at the office when he was getting a permit, that the fine is between $2,000 and $4,000. I can’t believe how dumb our gov’t is…
