lake moultrie help

hopefully next weekend im going to short stay and taking the test to rent a boat, then go explore the lake. im not after any one kind of fish in particular and wont be keeping anything since i hve very limited space in my barracks freezer, but whats the technique for finding stripers and where should i start looking? if they behave anything like white bass back home im used to watching for diviing birds and shad being busted on the surface, but hows it done here with stripers? also what lures should i be throwing? little geeorge is one of my all time favorites, i do have a fair amount of plugs, and spoons are another favorite. thanks for any help!

I don’t fish moultrie but I do know that the striper there are heading up the rivers for a spawn run. I don’t think they all go but a lot do. The striper do school up and push shad to the surface on the lakes down here. You can use the birds to locate them. A lot of people up here on murray throw bucktail jigs tipped with a twister tail or striper delights. You can also troll stretch 25s and umbrella rigs in deeper water. Lynn on here always fished the dam area and did well. do a search on the stiper forum for moultrie and you can find some good info.

You can fish around the lock area by short stay and catch the striper. I am no pro but have caught some using jigs with fluke worms as trailers. just look for the bait fish popping on the water and throw over them. if you fish the area make sure you stay outside the bouys by the locks. We have the most luck at night. make sure if you keep any they are the proper size, a minimum of 26 inches long and only 3 per person.
