Most of us regulars on this board don’t fish Santee on a regular basis. I would help if I could but am clueless. You might want to call some of the tackle shops around those lakes. Hopefully. someone in the know will chime in or send you a personal message.

I’m sure some folks have been catching them. I have a friend who lives on Pinopolis point right on the water and he says the stripers have been schooling almost every morning but he doesn’t fish. I fished the Moultrie end of the diversion canal last week and caught a few one day and zero the next two days. I caught a couple by accident bass fishing in lower Marion near Bass Island two days ago. I think those who are doing the most catching are keeping quiet. I do know last year I didn’t really have my best success until March and April.
jwopd, try posting in either the freshwater forum or the Lake Moultrie or Lake Marion forum and you may get some responses.
There use to be a guy that striper fished Sante, did well and posted here all the time. Cant remember but his name night have been LIMERIC ? Any one remember him and know what might of happened to him?

boatpoor, I remember those posts. I believe this is who you are referring too, but it doesn’t look like he has posted here in years

Striperskiff, ya, that’s him! Hope he’s all right, He sure could report about the striper fishing on the lakes!
I haven’t seen much from Lynn in awhile. No recent fish pix on facebook anyway…

Lynn is still around. I fished with him last week and we caught a limit of shad in the tail race. He sold his boat and got heavy into deer hunting. He fishes off shore with me when the wind lets us. When he fished the stripers, it was across from Short Stay on Lake Moultrie close to the dam at night. Trolling stretch 25’s or throwing big buck tails.

Thanks for the update! Can’t deer hunt all year, must find time for stripers! Miss his posts.
Contact Inky Davis. He’s a neighbor of mine & a bass guide, and doesn’t fish for the Stripers, but I’ll bet he can give you some places to try. Real nice guy too!
Thanks for the replies, folks.
mdl5155, what were the water conditions last year when it picked up for you in march and april?
Does anybody have methods they wouldn’t mind sharing? I’ve tried trolling lures at night with no luck.
It does seem like guys are very secretive about where and how to catch these big boys…
Thanks
We caught a lot of fish at the mouth of the canal on bucktails and swimbaits the second week of March last year. No keepers tho most 24/25" should be bigger this year. With the weather this year the bite should be sooner! try 58 deg.
jwopd,
We’re coming to Santee March 10-17.We’ll be staying on Bass Dr near the I-95 bridge.Decided not to bring the boat so if you or anyone else wants to fish for stripers or crappie I’ll be available. I’ll be glad to share or cover expenses such as gas and bait. I usually catch my own shad and herring when I can.
I’d rather fish than eat.
