Lake Moultrie Stripers

Any fished for them yet around Pinopolis?

Would like to try for them before the season goes out in May, but don’t want to waste a trip?

I don’t know about Pinopolis, but I hear they are pretty thick on the congaree river

I am going to troll and look for birds there on wednesday.DNR report I read states that Stripers return to Moultrie and school up b/w Bonneau and the Pinopolis dam in mid May. They stay until about Christmas time. In november of 2008 my dad and I went Striper fishing when everyone said the Stripers dont exist in lake moultrie anymore. We caught 70 stripers b/w 18 and 23 inches on this trip. The biggest school I have ever seen. Epic. I hope these fish return and are 26" by now!:smiley:

There hasn’t been a shortage of 26" + stripers that I am aware of…[:0]:smiley::wink:

Lynn…did you go to Stratford? I read all your reports from last november and december…Looks like you have alot of sucess:smiley:. We had trouble catching good #'s of stripers from 2006 to 2008 and rarely saw anyone fishing for them…Not saying there was a shortage…just not slaying them before 2008. I catch a good bit of stripers…just not many near 26".Maybe, I need to go at night?:sunglasses:

Yep, I went to Stratford.

I have been catching stripers pretty good for a good many years. I was told recently that some are catching them now, trolling and using live bait around the dam. I’m too busy with the offshore thing right now, but come late October, look out. I really only fish at night when I do striper fish. I like to go on the cold and rough nights! I have less competition and the striper seem to love those conditions. I have had no problem catching keepers with the new regs. Obviously, I do not catch my limit(s) every trip, but I usually have decent action though. You just have to put your time in, and it doesn’t hurt to be extremely lucky…:smiley::wink:

Fished from 7pm to 11:15pm around the dam and in front of Overton…Only caught a crappie. Trolled from dam all the way back to Bonneau…No results:frowning_face:. Nice Moon and good night spent with my wife:smiley:
