lynnmcd, did you go tonight? If so how did ya do and did you have any problems putting in at short stay. I plan on going wed. night but was curious how to get through the gate at short stay to use the landing. Thanks.

Well, I only caught a bunch of big catfish. I saw a small school of striper near the wall though. I called Short Stay yesterday and asked what times were civilians allowed and she said 24 hrs a day. All you do after hours is pull up to the gate and dial 11 to get the guard. He’ll let you in. Go to the security building and pay for a pass and there will be no problem. As far as the landing goes, also no problem

Lynn…The landing at short stay is open again?..I read a post just last week where it was closed…sure is alot closer to the fish then Canal…
lynnmcd, have you noticed any correlation in the striper bite when they are pulling water at the dam? I know a couple of years ago when we were catching them good trolling, it seemed we would catch them better when they were pulling water, not all the time but most of the time. Sometimes we wouldn’t catch them until after they were done pulling water.

In my experiences, it has been the opposite. Take last night for example. When I first got there, they were running the hydro all the way on the right. They shut it down and before too long, they had the middle hydro going until I left (5am). I have never been there when they pulled water that late. They were not pulling hard but they were pulling. The last few trips before last night where I was successful, it appeared they stopped pulling no later than 10:30 or 11:00. Now, I have been somewhat successful in the summer live bait fishing with them pulling hard. Of course, last night was slick and I usually do better if there is at least a little chop. But these are my own experiences.

Thanks! I called 1-800 92 lakes earlier and the average discharge yesterday was over 5000 cfs which is 3000 over predicted so that would explain why the hydros were running all night.
