Lake Moultrie -- Sunday night

Skunked…skunked…but a beautiful night on the water…

Put in at Canal…good run across lake…no wind…got to the dam at 9:15…started trolling Stretch 25+…marked plenty of fish…bait fish by the millions…no hits…no strikes…

I changed colors…changed depths…changed trolling tech…changed everything even my pants…no hits…no strikes…stopped at 1:00…

I must be doing something wrong to mark that many fish and have no strikes…

My boat trolls at 2.75–2.8…is this tooo fast???

Sorry to hear that SC . That is the perfect speed. That is strange to not get any fish. I am planning to go Friday night. Are you going? I’m not sure what time I will put in, but I know I will be there longer than that unless I catch my limit. What are you getting your speed by (GPS, speedometer)? I really don’t understand no hits. But, you never know with them striper.

oh man…u make me sick…lol…no really, good catch…i was using the speed on the GPS…2.77–2.82 ground speed…

I tried everything…and nothing would turn them on…I can’t believe the amount of bait fish up under the lights and next to the grates…

I marked several nice groups of fish out by the first pole (#2)…could not get anything to hit…

I work on Friday and Saturday nights…so I fish during the week or Sunday nights…let me know if you go during the week sometime…

or need someone to go with…I have a 1720 Key West…which is a little small for traveling across the big open water if it is rough…

later…and i will keep you informed…i have not given up on them yet…

I might be able to go next Tuesday or Wednesday night. Don’t feel bad, I have had nights where I get one or at least a strike almost every pass and only a few if any the very next night.[:0]

just let me know if you need an extra hand in your boat…I’m available…I sure do need to learn everything I did wrong…which must be a lot of stuff…cause I never got a strike…

sometimes you can go hours without a hit then catch ten in an hour. then they will shut off again. You never know. Even the best fisherman get skunked. Also I have heard that a gps is not very accurate at slow speeds. Why don’t you use bait. why imitate when you can use the real thing. Especially if you saw a ton of bait. You could probably catch all you need in one throw of the cast net.

Yeah, those striper have a switch they flip whenever they want. I know I have fished all night before without a single hit. Steely is right about how they are. As far as using live bait during the cool months, I have never had much success around the dam. But the nights that I have tried it could have been an off night for the striper.

Thank you Sharky . I’m hoping to get another couple limits this Friday night. You just never know though. SanteeCarl, if the weather is good next week, I will be going Tuesday or Wednesday night. Right now I have some people going with me. Maybe we can meet up if you want. Last year was awesome trolling around this time.

not a problem…keep me informed on when you going…and I will plan on a late night of fishing…

In years pass…the stripers did not do good this time of the year on live bait at night…except when the sun came up…then we used live bait until about 8:30…then the fish moved out into the lake…go figure…trolling did better at night if the stripers were there…

Sharky, i said the best fisherman not you. :face_with_head_bandage: I am still waiting on the coupler for my boat. i went steelhead fishing for four days (six with the drive). Standing in 35 degree water in the rain/snow/wind got me sick. Came home and got the wife and babies sick. So I don’t think I am going this weekend. If i get my coupler i will fix the boat. i guess if there is ever a good time for my boat to be down it is now. If repairs go well I may get out Thanksgiving morning.

Steely,
I know what you mean, a few weeks ago, my household kept passing a bug back and forth. It’s hard not to do, especially with kids.

lynn…Have you tried late afternoon or are you just doing the night thing…getting the urge and want to pinpoint…rather than go all night…rode around the Moultrie dessert today and man is that a sight

I haven’t been able to go that early. Last year I tried all different times and I always had my best success at night. Yeah, this is the worst I have ever seen the lake. No relief insight…
