Lake Moultrie Tuesday Night 05/20/08

After taking a nap at the landing waiting for the storm to pass, I started trolling sometime after 0200. I had plenty of hits and misses, but I ended up with my 5 nice striper. The biggest was around 29". # 4 & 5 came as a double and ended my fishing around 0400. I also caught a gar on one of the lures and gave him a couple of strikes with the equalizer. One less gar to steal bait and eat small fish. It was a pretty good night. I threw back plenty of short ones and lost about the same amount as I caught. I even had a triple going once, but they hit when I slowed to a crawl and didn’t eat the hooks good enough. I had planned on live baiting, but as rough as it was, the baits would have been jerked off the hooks. It all worked out though

Lynn, just curious, do you have to have a permit or sticker on your boat to fish up close to the dam? I hadn’t been in there in years, but seems like I remember something about that.

Yes, I have a bait permit. You can get one free at Santee Cooper in Moncks Corner.

Hmmmmm
What is the survival rate of released stripped bass? It looks as if this is a done deal.

 good going lynn. see ya soon I hope

norm

Norm, are you going to be able to bring your boat tonight? Brad said you had to take it back to the shop?

Yes, I’m still using the sabiki rigs for bait. I am fishing anywhere between 30’ to 50’ with live bait. When I troll, I am fishing real shallow. It’s funny how that works. I will keep you in mind next week if I go.

actually, quite good in water temps below 70 degrees. progressively worse as temps rise. above 80, Davy Jones locker.
