Lake Murray 10-16

Fished mid lake and never had a single hit. First time skunked in a long time. Not even a short fish or gar. Marked some thick schools but could not get a single hit.

Join the club. Skunks are roaming the lake in force. Managing a few here and there, but it has not been very consistant from one day to the next for me. Catch 15 plus one day with keeps and the next there aren’t even fish in the same area.

yeah, I struggle during the transition periods. But my problem has always been finding them. Friday i found them but could not get them to bite. But with all the ice I didn’t use for fish, I had cold beer.

What type of transition period are you talking about this time of year steelytom? Trying to learn more about the striper fishing here on murrary. Do the fish move up mid lake or up farther do u still fish bluebacks? Any general help would be great. This time of year I have no idea whats up no problem looking if I just knew what type of area to look for? Dad just retied and bought a 18 bay and looking for colder weather fun. He loves to catch but doesn’t care to eat um so noooo worry about lowering lake level here.ny help would be great! Thanks.

after sept i also struggle. i am just too lazy to learn i guess i would rather go catch crappie then hope for good luck with the stripes, but i will look a little more this year. any type of creek or finger running off the main lake at bomb island and above. example being bear creek, john’s creek, hollow creek, clouds creek; should hold some sort of fish thats what i have been told. getting them to bite is another factor. the little bit of winter fishing i have done most of the stripes have been caught on lg shad or med shiners while chasing specks…lol…caught some big fish on accident with a 1 1/2" minnow…lol…sharky will be along to help with winter fishing tactics i believe.

Hightline,
The fish leave the lower lake and start moving up the lake toward the river. Right now they are kind of scattered around the mid lake area. Some days they may be shallow in creeks and others they may be in the river channel. I still have a lot of learning to do myself. I have been going every week so I should be able to figure something out this winter. One of the problems I have is not being able to pick my days. Seems like every time I plan on going a cold front comes through and they shut down.

i talked to sharkey and she said he is not chasing the stripers this year. he is going to concentrate on cats since he didn’t do so great last year. i think this winter will be pretty good. The first batch of stocked striper after the fish kill are now keepers. I think it will be excellent in two more years with all the fish they stocked the last three years and the amount of bait out there.
