Went out with phishinphan last night. Launched out of koon around 5:00 and the entire cove was filled with threadfin shad. Not many fish under them though. went across the lake and saw some schooling. put lines in and caught probably 10 shorts and I got one 27". shorts were all around 18".
At least you got out and had some action!

i figure through the gap into crystal lake or hang a right over to bear creek. any help there tom… went for some specks on friday morning. caught a couple but quit early to do somme scoutin to see where people were fishing. seen two boats both boat a keeper a piece (well they put them in the coolers)lol looked pretty small. they were in the mouth of clouds creek on the edge of the lil saluda channel around off that big point. then saw alot of boats down below the forks all the way to spinners. saw one guy fishing that big area just up river from spinners and don’t know his name but have never seen him come to the boat landing w/o keeper fish in the winter. so if he was there i am sure fish were too. depending how the hunting goes tuesday, probably gonna hit the stripes friday…ARE YOU GUYS USING SHAD OR HERRING? THANKS

Just out of koon and to the right there is a pair of double islands. I seem to remember losing a few shad-raps about two years ago during a bass tournment. Hard hits that stripped line and then broke off. Always felt like they were big stripers, but never landed any. other guys in the tourney said the same thing. Have had several hook-ups and broken line as a result around there. At that point in my life i had never striper fished, and had no understanding. Now i want to go back:wink:

we fished a long time for that one keeper, so you may be better off up there. We were on the up lake side of dreher. fish were there, but scattered. We also went and fished a light dock when we were running out of bait. tons of bait around the dock. I kept throwing the net and getting a couple thread fins each cast. 1/2" mesh doesn’t work that great for threadfin. We caught a couple shorts there as well.
