My wife wanted some fresh fish, so we untied the boat from the dock late yesterday and went to one of our reliable spots. Had a great “meat” run. Trolled u-rigs for about 45 minutes. Caught enough for 10 meals for the two of us. Decided that was enough for the day and went back to the dock.

Yes, it is back to normal summertime level. I have not been enough lately to know whether yesterday was a fluke or not, but I usually do very well this time of year.
Whaler, where did you get your umbrellas. I made some before the water went down and they worked pretty good. They got destoyed in the garage door a year or so ago. Thought about making some more but heck I’ll just buy some if I can. I have not used bait with the new boat so I figured on trolling. Thanks for any info!
Corky, I always buy the bare wire umbrella and then rig it myself. Usually get mine from Boater’s World off of Harbison Blvd. or at Dooley’s in Lexington. I heard that there is a shop in Newberry that sells them already rigged, but have not seen any from there. I believe the shop is next door to Wilson Marine. The person that told me about that place said that a guide makes and sells them there. I believe the ones you can find already rigged with tubes would be a waste of money for lake use. As I write this, I believe I remember seeing a rigged umbrella at Boater’s World that was rigged with plastic shad instead of the usual tubes. I did not pay it much attention though, since I really like rigging mine myself.
With a little arm twisting, I could probably be talked into putting some together for you. Let me know.
Whaler, the homemade ones I used jigheads with rubber little fishies. I bought some of the premade wires a couple of weeks ago and rigged them the same way and it was just too heavy with the jigheads. Maybe I’ll try hooks without weights? We caught a lot of fish on the old homemade unbrellas. We even caught two on one rig (nine and sixteen pounds) I wish I had not lost those old rigs! Maybe I’ll catch you on the lake soon, I got the only new 26 ft Hydrasport with twins that has been on the lake. Run me down. Let’s keep in touch. Thanks
Bill, give me a ring, I been trying to feed a new GPS cable through an already full T-top tube. Maybe a case between the two of us and we’ll make it will fit. Call me when you get to Cola-town. Later!
