Lake Murray - 6-18-05

Took a friend and his father-in-law Saturday morning to show them how I pull u-rigs. Went to favorite spot #1 and caught a few short fish. Decided to leave and search for larger fish. Went to favorite spot #2, caught more short fish. Ditto on favorite spot #3. Ditto on favorite spot #4. Went back to favorite spot #1 and finally caught a keeper @ 24".

Total for the morning…17 shorts and 1 @ 24".

Whaler Driver,
How deep was the water you were trolling in? I have been doing pretty good with U-rigs but lately my luck seems to have ran out!

RetiredGoFast, almost all of the fish were caught in 15’ to 25’ deep water although a few were caught in 45’ deep water. I believe I should have spent some time looking in the big water for suspended fish. I had two downriggers on board, but never put them to use. I was catching fish pretty regularly and being the optimist that I am, was constantly expecting to find larger fish. It just never happened for me on Saturday. Next trip out, I am going to do a little more looking instead of going directly to my favorite spots.
