Lake Murray Boat Fuel

I normally fill up at a place near Hartwell but that lake has been a dead sea lately so I haven’t been there in months. I’m fishing Murray tomorrow and was hoping to fill up while I’m there. Where is the best quality ethanol free fuel on the Lake? I need 90 Octane or higher. With modern high HP outboards running $20K these days I’m very picky about what fuel I use. I worry about water in the fuel at some marinas so I was hoping someone could recomend one they use regularly with no issues. Preferably somewhere from Billy Dreher on up the lake to Big Man’s or Blacks Bridge.

I am also open to filling up with the boat on the trailer if there is somewhere in Prosperity or Newberry on my way back.

Thanks.

I’m not sure what is on the upper end of the lake, but the Sunoco at I-20 and #1 HWY (Augusta HWY) has 90 octane E-free. This is my go-to place for gas.

If you’re going up the Lexington side of the lake on HWY 378, JC’s Outdoors has it as well.

jakes landing is on the oppisite side of the lake he’s going. Frayed knot has e-free fuel. that’s probably your easiest place to get to. I’m also 90% sure that dreher island fuel dock is e-free as well.

I was wondering about Dreher Island. I will check with them, thanks. There are some perch spots in Crystal Lake I need to check anyway so i will be right there.

I dont know the names of places but maybe someone can help. there is a place that has a crappy little restaurant, with huge dock for extra seating. not to far from Billy Dreher. also farther up the river is a place that has a small store and cabins on the water.

youre probably talking about frayed knot, then the place with the cabins is probably buffalo creek

Yes, right after the bridge. sorry I really am bad with the names. But I sure can find them. I know that one because we ran out of beer and the store had ice and beer.

I called Dreher Island and they have 89 Octane Ethanol free for $3.75 a gallon As long as no one has heard any horror stories about people getting water in their fuel there, I will go ahead and run down there and fill up tomorrow.

Filled up at Dreher couple weeks ago with no issues

if you’re driving toward the lake, just south of Newberry there is a no-name station on the right, best gas prices around and they have ethanol free, bought a ton of it

Pioneer 197SF

I regularly get fuel at the station. It’s on the right about a couple miles before u enter dreher island. Also they have great bologna/egg/cheese for breakfast and good hotdogs for lunch…

Not sure on octane but I put it in a 2016 zuke 140 and my buddy puts it in his 2017 Yammy SHO…

This is very helpful, I appreciate all the input.

Thanks agin for all the input. I ended up trying that no name station out of Newberry mentioned above but it was only 87 Octane which is less than the 89 minimum for my motor. But I did find Ethanol free 90 Octane at a station a 1/2 mile further down the road named the Food Mart. It was a good place to pull in with the boat. Every pump has the Ethanol Free and you can pull all the way around the back of the building if you need to turn around.

Fishing was pretty good just ahead of the front. Stripers were real shallow, right up on the banks. Got into a nice mess of perch too. Fish Taco time.
