Lake Murray Saturday 3/18

Larry and young Ben ( Chum Boy ) came down from Greenville … day started out windy and cold, but we eased over to the lee side of Pine Is. water was about 56 degrees… we marked several large schools down in the old Saluda River Channel… down deep at about 65 to 90 ft, in 100ft of water … finally Chum Boy’s rod gets a severe bow and starts to dance… glad that I had a camera on board !! finally got the fish in and weighed about 8lbs…not big by any standard, but almost 1/2 the size of the 12 year old that caught it !! Larry took one 30 minutes later, then no more bites all morning… marked plenty of fish around Wessingers and over past Bomb Is… most down deep in the old channels… the day turned out beautiful by 11 AM… wind went down and the chill disappeared… hope everyone had a good Saturday…

I went saturday as well. Put in at Putnams and ran up to the big gap. Had to do a little dodging as the bass boats were flying by from the tournament. Caught 2 on live bait back to back and then nothing. Pulled out the umbrella rigs and caught 10 more. Only three keepers out of the bunch.

Dawg, almost everyone that I talked with said that the fish seemed to be all smaller ones… I tried an umbrella rig once, was not too great for me, but I’m going to try it again until I get it right…

Most were short. 1 on live bait was a keeper and two on umbrella. 1 oz Chartrues roadrunners with a 1oz chartrues spinnerbait in the middle. Most fish were hitting the spinnerbait. Did catch 1 that afternoon that was 9lbs on the umbrella but that was it.
