Showed jczc2414 around yesterday . Birds diving at put in and plenty of fish in first cove. A couple short strikes there & the birds moved down lake. We decided to follow . I was trolling 4 live baits and 1 artificial. Just as I approached secret spot #21 my graph completely filled with fish . I no sooner said holy s [:0] ! to jczc2414 and the port planer rod started screaming ! I start the fight/ride…seconds later…zzz…zzz…zzz from the down rod ! Almost the same time, the artificial hit ![:0][:0][:0] Fought the first to a slow , cranked the down rod (center mount) tight…Got the 1st netted ,tucked under left thigh, replaced rod & got the down rod. Missed the first grab (fish pulled hook solid then) second grab tucked fish under right thigh. Proceeded to third rod. The fish was still there ! while fighting it #2 decides he wants back in the lake ! . Still hooked …I was able to re-boat ! Back to #3 …he ended up the smallest at 23" ! #1 was 25" #2 was 24" ! ALL BOATED !!! Woo-Hooo !!! Alone I would have paddled to shore to put in front hatch on ice . Thanks jczc2414 for the assist:smiley: (sorry we ended up tangled) His help may have cost him some action . He did get a 14" LM. and was still fishing when I left . Any luck jc ?
I did land a shorty (18") a couple of hours later. Almost the exact same spot. It hit the freelined herring. Ran across some isolated fish, but no hits. Birds were quiet too. Cloud cover got pretty heavy for a while, but the wind never really kicked up. Paddled up the one channel that we talked about but no action. Birds were just sitting in the water.
My back is really paying for all of the paddling yesterday. I should have quit when you did! I ended up cleaning fish in the dark when I got home!
Thank you though, it was a great day and the stripers were a blast!
Merry Christmas to you and your family, we will have to try it again after the new year.
You are most welcome. It was a great problem to have, huh? Don’t worry about the school cutting loose. You showed me what needs to be done, so there will always be another day.
I have put on my list to get:
They are fun. Murrayfisherman knows WAY more than I. He is teaching me. It is mostly trolling and hunting for signs. I have discovered it is a great alternative if I cannot make the 3 1/2 hour drive to the coast. It makes the day trip much easier for me. The lake is pretty quiet this time of year too.
