First Mate and I took our neighbors night fishing for crappies Friday night… all they could talk about, was how good it is in their "special"cove… by 10:30 pm , all we had was 8 crappies and a boat load of storm water…sooooo, we went back Sun am to big bay area, in the old river bed… put in at Jakes at 7am and by 10am had 6 nice ones in the boat… all between 6 and 8 lbs… nice dinner size !! used live herring with 1 ounce weight and 2/0 circle hooks (my favorite) down about 70ft… also one on a flat line behind the boat…nice morning and left the Lake before the Jet Ski Yahoo’s arrived !! Good report Capt. I needed to hear that because all I found in Jakes Saturday was Gar. Matthew and I are going in the early am Monday and should be off no later then 9am so I can get to work. Being able to stay close to Jakes will help us make the most of the time. Has anyone heard anything about the Stripers being between the towers and the beach at the dam? Just a rumor, but I might check in the am. Bad news is my Lowrance is down and being replaced, and so for now I’m sight fishing. Well hope to have a good report tom. God Bless,

Is it any wonder Jesus choose Fisherman for his disciples?
When you guys go down 70 feet, are you standing still or slow trolling live bait? And how much weight are you using?
When I slow troll, I am set up with 2 oz sinkers. I have had better luck with Kuhle hooks, also size 2/0

ChrisG… I was using a 1 oz weight, but because it was almost calm, it presented the baits almost straight down… we were drifting with what breeze there was… when its windy, we use 2 or 3 oz and even put out a 5gal bucket to slow us down… drift socks are nice, but not “multi-taskers” and are kind of expensive…hope this helps you !!
