Gary,
Do you work in Walterboro? Thats where I grew up, just wondering.
Coach,
Fished the fishers of men bass tourney saturday. Caught one 2 pounder and one 5 pounder. Fish wasn’t hitting much at all. My partner caught a jackfish. I told him he could be in the middle of the dead sea and catch a jackfish. We ran through a striper school on the way to the fishing hole. Wanted to stop and catch a few but didn’t have time. I am going to bring my saltwater/striper boat up in a couple of weeks and catch some. Going to try my luck at cobia next couple of weeks but I would like to hook up with you one day and catch some stripers.

Sounds good maybe you can hook me up with some salt-water fish. Last year I went twice out of Charleston and had great trips. My brother went on one trip and had a 21lbs Red Snapper. Anyhow I we are going tomorrow, but we are thinking about skipping Murray and heading to Charleston to catch some sharks…I’d like a few shark steaks soon. Anyhow ya’ll have a great day. However we are more likely to stay on Murray for Stripers cause I have a 12-hour workday today plus a softball game tonight. So anyone out on Murray tomorrow look for us. Right now what most folks are saying is it seems to be hit and miss. God Bless, Coach

Coach B… sorry your guy bailed on you… Better Bait had plenty of bait at 7:30 am… we didn’t do too well either, just a few garfish to keep the 14yr old busy… we were at Hollywood point , then Pine Is, then up to Dreher Is… finally went to a cove near the old Snelgrove’s Landing… still no stripers, but some guys said that they were there at about daylight and ran into a school of them… guess I need to travel earlier, huh !! by mid-afternoon, the other boats and jet skis had the lake cut up like a washing machine… time to head in…thinking about a “cobia” trip to Beaufort in a couple of weeks… sure do like the taste of fresh cobia steaks !! look to see you on the pond, sometime… Capt.Gary

Hey Capt. Yeah one of the guys from Better Bait offered to sale me some, but I’m loyal to Lake World. If Richard is out of bait then I’ll go after other types of fish or run artificial. May sound strange, but I sometimes help out at Lake World and they have always been good to me. Most of my friends will tell you if I’m not at Church/Fishing/Work…then check Lake World. Anyhow I’m heading out in a few hours so let me get some shuteye. Hope everyone catches a good many this week…just save some for us little guys

Well guys we tried everything today and only pulled in a few and one catfish about 12lbs. We did hook about a 10lbs Jug head…you got it he jumped out of the water and spit the poper back at me. Then my friend hooked a huge striper on a rod that had brand new 12lbs line…drag was not too tight, but he hossed him a little much and the line snaped. We ended up going down to the river and caught a few nice trout. Not bad seeing as I left the Depth Finder at home. Lake Worlds bait was big and very lively. Folks we saw tons of fish hitting the top water…you guessed it every knock we got was on artifical top water plugs…except the Catfish which was on a free line. Well best to all of you…should be back out Friday night…river looks great for trout and Striper are HERE!!! 40lbs the other day by a woman who got her first striper ever, and many big trout are near the landings…only one thing causes that this time of year…those that have been waiting wait no longer the Striper are above the Zoo. God Bless, Coach
PS: I found a Kayak today half way between Spence and the Dam…if you know anyone who lost one tell them to contact me. NO there wasn’t a problem…looks like someone left it sitting on the land and it drifted off as the water rose…I expect it was from up the lake.

No. I was just wondering. I was thinking about getting some large shiners and putting the porta-bote in at saluda-shoals. I don’t have a gas motor for it yet but I think the water wouldn’t be too swift there to go up river with the trolling motor. My buddy has an aluminum Ranger bass boat. Do you think I could put in there and go up-river real slow without bashing the prop on the rocks?

As low as the river has been lately you shouldn’t have any problems getting up the river with a trolling motor-just don’t go below the boat ramp (in case they actually do run some water). Adjust the trolling motor height as high as it will go & the rocks shouldn’t be a problem.
If you’re fishing for stripers trout will work much better than shiners-and they are a lot of fun to catch.
