fished Friday pm… nice afternoon on the water, but no fish in the cooler… had a couple of pull downs, but they were striking short… this was in the Beaverdam Creek area and just south of Bomb Is…I think its going to get better next week… Capt.Gary Watters
Friday afternoon, the 25th, took the boat out for a quick troll of some new pattern umbrellas. Trolled in the Hollow Creek area for about an hour … 3 stripers with one measuring 25". A lot of trash in the water due to the heavy rains.
Saturday afternoon, the 26th, decided to try another area with the umbrellas. Only fished for about an hour … caught 1, but it was short. Near the elbow, a lot more trash than in Hollow Creek and dirtier water as expected.
Hopefully, the next time out, I will have enough time to fish longer and towards Shull Island, Bomb Island, etc.
Fished Tuesday and caught 10 stripers, 6 were between 6lbs and 10lbs. Fish were caught on planner boards/freelines in the Bear Creek area and cutbaiting in the big gap. Water temp was 60 degrees in the creek and 56 at the gap. Hope this helps.
Hey Buddy, longtime no talk to!!! See your site has changed abit. Looks good. Especially the manly looking dude in the 6th row of your photo album holding the permitt and dolphin.
Hey Bob,
Hope you and Steve are doing well. It’s time to ‘take it deep’. You guys ready. I’m just waiting on some good weather. I’ll give ya’ll a call when I plan to go out. Be nice to have some company out there.
I’ll be in Columbia Wednesday (4/13) and Thursday (4/14), if anyone is doing any late afternoon striper fishing I would like tag along, share expenses, beer, gas. I don’t want the fish just the experience. Just leave a message here. I will be checking in.
Imcleod… don’t know if I’ll be back from Walterboro in time to fish on Thursday… I could go Friday pm if you’re still in the area and interested… we took a nice “dinner” size striper last Sunday, before all the jet ski’s and cruisers turned the lake into a “washing machine”…let me know… gary
Thanks for the invite Gary, I will probably be headed back to Florence around noon on Friday. Maybe we can get together some other time. I just passed the 1st part of the MCDST exam a few minutes ago, I’ll take the 2nd part on Friday morning. I have docked my boat at a buddy’s place at Martins Crossing. We fished Monday - nothing, Tuesday - a few bream on a Beetle Spin in the shallows and a few bass on a Rattle Trap around the white markers. I am supprised that nothing hit the soft plastics. Didn’t fish Wednesday.
went out to the lake again this afternoon… real nice day on the water !! took a striper on a flat line near Dreher Is State Park at power line cross over… caught a 9lb largemouth about a mile back towards the dam… sure will be nice when Hwy 6 is widened, but in the mean time…sure is a PIA…good luck to all…
I am looking to go this Friday since I have a day off. Anyone want to head out with me? I am thinking about heading out about 6:30 and staying out until around 1:30. If you want to let me know. God Bless, Brian

Coach,
My co-worker who lives in knight harbor and lives and eats striper fishing called me today and said he caught seven yesterday fishing points in about 10-15 feet of water. He said they were starting to school also and hitting top-water. He uses buck-tails and white flukes fished texas style weightless. I will be out tomorrow if it isn’t pouring rain, but I will be bass fishing mostly but if I see em schooling I will throw something at em.Oh and he fishes in the upper half of the lake also around the islands and up to ballentine. If you see me out give me a shout. I will be in a white/blue and silver nitro bass boat with a 115 mercury.
Hey didn’t see you, but man did I have fun Friday. I went in Yacht Cove and fished around the points after only picking up a few short fish drifting the middle. Then I started trolling the sides and sure enough over by the house that’s just being built I picked up my second biggest Jug Head ever. I weighed it at Lake World and it was 6.8lbs…not much for some jug head fisherman, but for a striper boy like myself I don’t catch many big jug heads. I then took my dad Saturday in beards Creek, but the waves tossed my little bass tracker like a rag doll. He did however get his biggest jug head that went about 4lbs. and for someone who used to not fish he is starting to get the fever. We almost went out toward Spence, but man those waves were too much for my little boat. How did ya’ll do? God Bless, Brian

Coach,
We went monday and my buddy caught a jackfish and I hooked a nice bass but lost him. I think the cold front messed us up. I am going out again friday morning. Have a bass tourney the next two saturdays then I am going to bring my striper/saltwater boat up from the lowcountry and concentrate on the stripers. I will be staying at edisto for a week in july and will concentrate on the near-shore reefs.
Sounds great…I spent Saturday working at Lake World, but I saw some nice fish some in. I know some of the fishing has been slugish, but drifting free lines in shallow water seems to be working ok. With my boat I have to fight the wind, but if you stay on the Lexington side things have been a little more calm. Best wishes to those going during the week…I’ll be teaching and wishing I was fishing. As soon as PACT testing is over I’ll be taking a couple days off to head out to the Lake. Hope to see some of ya’ll at Lake World. God Bless, Coach B

Capt.Gary
