Lake Norman

Caught a few linesiders at Lake Norman from the yak. Fish were deep around channel edges. Pretty fun on ultralight tackle. Used live shad for bait.

Nice Fish!

Nice striper. I took my kids and a friend out to a “secret spot” in Norman a few day ago. Live hering were the ticket for us. The fish were mostly 25’-50’ down. Slow slow trolling around the channel edges and points. The kids had a ball.

Nice job. I can’t wait until the water cools down and brings these fish up into the shallows. Then it’s time to break out the fly rod.

Dillon,
What kind of flies do you use. I guess some kind of deer hair popper. I have only fly fished for trout/salmon/stealhead. I would like to try the flies on Murray when they are schooling on the surface. Also how long of a leader do you use.

steelytom, sorry for the late reply, I use clouser minnows in all color variations. Chartreuse and white being my favorite. I use a 8 to 12 ft leader, 8-10 lb. I also like a sinking tip line to get below the surface, seems to land larger fish. Good luck, Murray holds some real monsters.
