I am going to Clarks Hill in May to fish for 3 days. I was wondering if it is worth going up and fishing Russell one day? Most people I have talked to have never been on it. I know Russell does not have big numbers but does have some nice big fish. I also thought I saw where they have started a small stocking program of about 35000 yearly. Any info on this lake would be appreciated.
Also I have heard rumors that several fisherman have been robber or vandalized at the landings on this lake. Is this true? Not trying to believe everything I hear but I have heard that several times. thanks.
bomber–i have fished russell hard for the last 3 months–almost every or every other weekend --never been broken into but have seen broken auto glass in the elbert county ramp parking lot–put in at beaverdam marina --usually somebody around at all times–seems safe–now as far as the fish i can tell you there are some hogs up there --have brought a few close to 30 to the boat–but more often than that have gone home swearing ill never go to that lake again:face_with_head_bandage: did that last sunday!–all i can tell you is take plenty of hooks and patience–as far as how to get the fish on the line i wish i could figure that out myself!! good luck
leave your arigs in the boat if you want to keep em!! ive lost 3 just casting to schools but have seen them be successful at times -just wouldnt try trolling them myself–there are trees just about everywhere in water over 30ft deep–i have found a few stretchs with no timber in deep water but not many–not sure bout the really deep water down by the dam-havent been down there yet–dont get me wrong it is a awesome lake if ppl continue catch and release on it -but it seems to be feast or famine for me–execpt for those bait stealing spots-they are plentiful (and taste good too!)
Is there anywhere near the (**() I can put in and not have problems. I will be coming up from Hickory knobb state park. I am gonna give it a try. There should be fish in under 30 feet of water in mid may. Sounds like I may need to bring my gun.
