Anyone have any experience fishing on Wateree. I’m mainly a saltwater guy but have recently moved to the lake just outside of Camden. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Caught a nice 24 inch striper trolling a crank bait Saturday afternoon. Not sure how to upload the pic. Will try later.

Nice fish, there are not many reports from wateree on here. The guys in the sc section on crappie.com fish wateree a lot.
Thanks SteelyTom…yeah it’s been hard to find much info on Wateree and how people are catching them ect…but hopefully i’ll figure it out over the summer. Here’s the fish from Saturday.

I love Wateree. Lots of fish, but I have had some good help from a local that knows the lake really well. My experience has been mostly with Bream and Perch. There are lots of bream on that lake-bobber with cricket when they are bedding. We jig for perch with spoons just off the bottom and occansionally will catch a striper or crappie. One time we found a school of striper and had some really good topwater action for about 15-30 minutes until we lost the school. Wish you luck!
Koon, it depends what you want to fish for. Wateree is a great bream lake. A tube of crickets or a beetlespin will kill them
I’ve always fished Wateree for bass, so if that’s your thing, work around to find the pattern. This time of year I’d go about 1/2-3/4 of the way back into some of the creeks, and fish docks and grass on the way out towards the lake. As the day goes on, try a bit deeper on points and humps. You can also run up towards the headwaters, and fish the rocky bluffs that have deep water closeby. Shallow, I’d throw a worm, spinnerbait, or topwater (buzzbait, clear Spook, or a Pop-R). Deeper, a crankbait or a carolina rig worm. Keep a Hopkins spoon and a topwater on for schooling fish.
thanks guys for the help. I’ll be out on the water all weekend. Hope for a good report from the weekend.

Last month we killed the catfish trolling with crankbait 10-30 foot deep. I think most where 4-5 lbs in size and we kept a few. This month we have not had any luck catching anything trolling, but we did catch some cats up towards cedar creek. IF you follow the river up towards the Cedar Creek area, you will find some holes 50+ feet deep. you will find 6-12 boats around those for good reason. Chad will get you a nice big cat or stripper.
