Landing Net Suggestions

Hey Guys!

Looking for a new landing net. Have seen but never tried a rubber net. Also see rubber coated nylon/polyester nets advertised. Any thoughts or suggestions are welome.

Thanks!

I use the Bass Pro nets with the gold handle. Reasonably priced and has an extendable handle.

Joby

I use an extendable rubber net. It’s a bit heavy when netting a fish if fishing solo, but the only way to go if fishing plugs or spoons with treble hooks. If strickly bait fishing, I usually still just bring a standard mesh net.

Here’s what I use. I like the ability to fold it up and put it in a rod box.

I do as striper skiff and have found the bigger the net the better!

The bigger the net the better. I got mine from academy.

I don’t know. I don’t own a big net and, unfortunately, it’s never a problem for me. :frowning:

Kidding aside. I don’t know if all rubber nets are the same, but the one I have, besides being relatively heavy, is very shallow.

Seems like someone here posted about spraying a standard mesh net with Liquid Rubber, Flex Seal, or something like that. Haven’t tried it though.

striperskiff if you saw our netting skills you would understand why we like the bigger net! It’s more for our sake than the bigger fish…

I’m ok with a net, but a gaff is a different story.

I’ll occasionally just bring a gaff in mid summer, just to get some practice for those few trips I get offshore. Nothing like being a guest on an offshore trip and knocking a nice fish off with the gaff. lol

Riff, thats why I like the bigger net! I also carry a long handle gaff and a shot gaff. Be sure you have a surgical tube end on the gaff point to keep it safe!

I could get by with the net I get my herring with.

Better than gaffing a big wahoo and dropping the gaff and fish over the side.

True…LOL That was painful to see. Sure glad that wasn’t one of us greenhorns dropped it. That would have been the last invite for sure.

Had a buddy planted a gaff in his calf when a wohoo fliped off before it got to the fish box not a pretty sight, runned our day of fishing. CG could not send a helo and we had to turniquit it and head for the hill! Shi* happens, lesons learned the hard way!

Kufa makes a great landing net for really cheap in comparison to similar products …

$50 for a rubberized mesh net with a hoop that measures 20 x 27 and 22" deep with a handle that telescopes to a total length up to 7’8’ is pretty hard to beat …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

I own 2 Nets. One for everyday fishing and one for fishing tournaments or chasing big fish. The bigger net has saved me more times than I can count. It’s a Frabill from Academy for 50$… It has paid for itself a few times lol

After loosing a good net by leaving it on the bimini and watching it blow off as I moved the boat and sink I now put a large length of pool noodle over the handles, look funny but helps keep the net from sinking.

Thanks for the net ideas guys! Gives me plenty of options.

I used to play that game with my kids too! …but they didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as your son apparently does.

Looking back, I probably should have used a net as well instead of a gaff.
