Large Group Charters

Are there no large deep sea fishing boats in the Charleston area?

TH

No

Atlantic Star,Thunderstar,Carolina Clipper. They used to run out of Shems Creek. They ran the Clipper in the dirt,Right Whale law killed the others.

The Teaser can take more than 6 I believe.

Go to the top of this page, choose charters/offshore/Captain Mark Brown On Board the Teaser. His site says he can take 20 and gives a price breakdown per number of fishermen. He’s the captain you want for bottom fishing too…hands down.

If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.

Capt. Mark Brown!!!
Anybody that likes to fish should go with him a least once. Great adventure and he just flat out catches fish.

I didn’t know it was the right whale law that stopped the Thunderstar from doing trips…interesting…

yes Pat,pretty much the nail in the coffin.

certain times of the year, vessels larger than 65ft.,must travel at 10kts. or less.

Harbor Pilots were the only ones that slipped by,they claim they are “law enforcement”.

It may have also been the fact that we have a 5 month grouper closure, year-round snapper closure, 4 month B liner closure, and random blackfish closures…

Oh and the cost of diesel.

You can thank Bin Laden for the pilots still being able to go fast…

How fast do pilot boats go anyway? I may bring this up on another thread.

I think they go over 30kts when they want.

I will ask the resident ocean speed experts whether your assertion regarding these mono hulls is credible.

I top out @ 34kts.,that’s twin 250 Opti XS.

I caught the Fort Moultrie, but it took several minutes. She was running an easy 31-32kts.

Oh gotcha…what a rough way to go out…they where in business for a long time…

I used to sometimes fill in as Captain on the Carolina Clipper. Plain and simple - head boat fishers were meat fishers. The SAFMC killed the industry. The enviros were very successfull - It will never come back - gone forever

Go with the Teaser2 and Capt Mark as mentioned. He took a party of 19 one day last week.
