I found this new spot to fish that apparently has quite a few largemouths. I’d love to snag one OTF, but I don’t know what fly to throw to them.
Any suggestions? I tie my own stuff, so a picture or description would be great! Thanks guys.

Shrimp pattern, clouser, deceiver, deer hair popper,
Don’t have pics, but search for fly swap on this forum. We posted a lot of pics during the last swap.
So much water, So little time
Everything Too Busy said. I would also add large Mickey Finns as well. I have caught more largemouth on finns than on any other pattern. They are super simple to tie, just google it. If you look at the pic below you can see the finn.

Any particular colors or types of retrieves for those Finns?
…also, what size hooks for those?
I have been doing pretty good on Olive Wooly Buggers and Black with purple tail Wolly buggers… SUPER easy to tie… I am sure you know how to tie one of those so I won’t bother with a pic I like to use about a size 1 or 2 long shank and use a dark olive body, lighter tail and a little grizzly hackle, black thread and whammo. Another pattern I use is my Craw-bugger… I’ll try to post the photo tonight, but you basically tie a olive wooly bugger BUT put a set of bead chain eyes back near the bend, throw on a couple strands of moose mane for antenna, tie as a normal wooly bugger and when you are done seperate the tail into two and carefully dab a drop of super glue on the base of the tails so they seperate and form what look like claws, the glue has to saty near the hook so you get the pulsing action of the maribou on the ends. DEADLY on brownies too… I have tied them much bigger with browns and oranges and they work well too… If you don’t want them to sink so fast just use mono eyes… Good luck and don’t forget to post pix!!!

Here’s one for ya…

Seriously, though… clousers, wooly-buggers, muddler minnows, and any redfish fly will work just fine.
That’s pretty awesome - how’d you tie it?
And thanks everyone else! Looks like I’ll be tying up some Mickey Finns and Wooly Buggers before I head back out there.
Wooly buggers.

Most any attractor or baitfish type pattern will work once you can figure out where the fish are holding. Just try to cover the entire water column with your fly selection.
Seaducers are good for the Top 1/3 as are Gugglers, Sliders, & Popers. Baitfish, Shrimp and Booger type patterns are always good for the Middle 1/3 of the water column with Clouser and other type Critter Patterns, like Crawfish, Leeches, Worms and other stuff that bass eat regularly taking fish that like to hold closer to cover and along the bottom. Spoons flies will also work well at times.
If the bass is Hungry or Pissed, they are going to chew on whatever you can put in thier strike zone. Just keep it simple and try both natural and hot colors that imitate forgage or provides you and the bass something you can both find and see.
Lastly, consider adjusting the size and weight of your fly to the depth, style and size of the baitfish and fish you target, it’s really pretty basic match the hatch 101 just keep in mind that you can get away with more aggressive presentations and more attractor type patterns due to aggressive nature of this species.
Here is the craw-bugger pattern I was talking about… It has been modifed since I did this sheet… The bidy can be thicker and the antenna are actually Moose MANE not body hair… Hope this helps!

I usually use about a 6 size hook. I have gone as large as a 2. I use the 6 because it allows me to also catch bream, crappie, cats, and even a few gar. Just make sure that you use a long shank hook. All the patterns that everyone has mentioned will produce. They are pretty aggressive fish. As for the retrieve, just vary your retrieve as no single method is the “ticket.” If you can make it look alive it should work. Good luck, and post some pics. I want to see a fat largemouth that looks like a toaster oven with eyes.

i like zonkers. like a trick worm with the crawlies. they can even be fished on a light spinner in places its difficult to flycast.
we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control
Thanks again everyone. I’ve tied up some buggers and mickey finns, now I just have to find a time when the wind calms down so I can get out there and do it.
I decided to give the water hazards on the golf course behind my house a try last night. Tried 2 different ponds caught 2 bass the biggest about 16" lost one other and missed a bunch in about 40 minutes of casting. Threw an olive muddler and a little frog colored popper on the six wt. Maybe I’ll start to hit the links nightly.
