Fished a good bit since Thursday. Every trip was double digit redfish with a few flounder thrown in except for Sunday. Sunday we were lucky to catch the one redfish that we did. The cold was brutal on Sunday with the windy conditions. Water temp was warmer then the air temp and all fish were caught on mud minnows and all were released. No chance to get to the reef off the beaches but hopefully that changes this week.
Thanks for the update and the report makes me think the fishing might be turning back up! Question about how you fished the Mud Minnows…were you soaking them on the bottom with a Carolina rig or actively moving/casting structure or grass with a Cajun Thunder? Just wondering if the fish are moving feeding or if you have to tempt them…I haven’t been out in a few weeks.
I prefer to let the mud minnows sit on the bottom and just move the rod a little, my clients prefer to cast and reel cast and reel cast and reel cast and reel. I find that the reds will hit while the bait is soaking and the trout prefer to hit on the retrieve. We fished both Carolina rigs and float rigs over the weekend. Most fish came on the Carolina rigs. The 4 flounder we caught only 1 was worth a second look, the others were small.
