I got the OK from my wife who is literally about to pop with twins to get one more fishing trip in before they get here.
Myself and my brother-in-law headed out for Dawhoo this morning, low tide at 7ish. We pulled up to the first spot to catch some bait, finger mullet everywhere, and on the second cast my partner threw a perfect pancake right on top of 2 24" spotails! We measured them just for s&gās and then released them to eat some more mullet.
After straightening out the mess of the cast net, we quickly loaded up on several dozen three inch fm. In the next 2 hours, we managed 7 or 8 spotails, all overslot except for one 22 incher, with got a ride in the livewell for supper. We had a double on one time, mine was right at 28 1\2" and his was about 24". I also had one that popped my line at the reel right after I set the hook. We watched him swim all around us for about 2 hours, big red DOA popping cork following him every where he went, but we couldnāt get close enough to snag it. After all of the commotion of us catching 5 or 6 more fish, he disappeared for a while and I thought ādang, I hate to leave that fish dragging around my cork and about 30 yds of lineā, but what can you do? Well, just as we were getting ready to leave, my partner looks up and says, āthere he is.ā I look up about 100 yards down river from us and there is my cork, still following him around. We chased that fish up and down the river for another 30 minutes before my Brother-in-law threw a big swimbait with a treble hook on the bottom of it and snagged the line. The hook slid up the leader and hooked the bottom side of the cork which was by now a birds nest of 20lb power pro. About 5 minutes later, we got him in the net, measured him right at 24" and released him to live another day.
After that was over, we made our way down to the trout hole and put a few trout in the boat, kept one for supper and then it was time to get off the water.
All in all it was a great day and I canāt wait to do it again, but Iām going to
Congrats on the twins. It wonāt be long before you have them out fishing, and it seems like in the blink of an eye they grow up and go. Enjoy them while you can.
Trigerfin, dont call it your last hoorah. This might give you hope:smiley:. When I was in the Marine Corps one of my SSgtās came in my office with a bewildered look on his face and a picture in his hand. You guessed it, Ultrasound. Showed it to me. WOW twins, then he tapped the picture not once, not twice but three times[:0] He said what am I going to do:question: Well 7 months later we were sitting in Korean Village in Iraq together. Iām quite sure you and you misses will make sure this isnt your last hoorah.
Oh no, just last for for a good while anyway. My oldest is 5 and just getting big enough for me to take her out, and when the twins get big enough, Ill have to buy a bigger boat.
