Great day out there. Breezy at 10-15 mph all day on winds. Seas were great. Never had to lift the throttle. Cruised in and out @ 25-28 mph @ 3500-4000 RPMs. Stopped and hit a few #‘s at Chas 60 with very little success. Went to #37 on maps unique to find live bottom…dud…Went to another set of #‘s about a mile from there, didn’t mark much. Decided to drop to see if I could find the bite as we had about 3 fish in the boat and had been out for 3 hours or more. FISH ON! BSB bite was on fire, lucky drop I guess. Made 2 drifts about 500ft each. Decided to drop anchor. Stayed on fish rest of day. Put about 30 BSB in the boat in a hurry. Then it seems like the 11 3/4-12" BSB were the only ones around. Let out anchor line, no success. Pulled about 100’ back in and got back into some more keepers. @ 3pm decided to call it a day after the last fish being a 4-5’ shark that I have no clue what kind it was. Tried to get a picture of it holding it but it had wrapped up 2 lines, cut 1 and then wrapped out of the other to swim away unharmed. By that time I would have had to rig 3 rods back up after the shark cut other guys line about 20 seconds prior. Was tired of rigging all day. It was time to come home anyways. Ended with 43 BSB. Most being 13-14". Had a few going 16" in the mix. No big ones today. On the way home blew the right rear tire on the Escalade and that set us back another hour. Got home after 8pm, decided to pressure wash boat and all equipment that went along, flush engine and call it a night. Packed all fish in 5 bags of ice and will clean them in the a.m. Have to take boat back in the a.m. too. All in all, what a GREAT day to be out there. Had a blast. Had 2 family members and a best friend out there. None of them which have done any offshore fishing in many years. I had a lot of teaching to do on the basic how to…drop, don’t birdnest (put clicker on for the ones who can’t grasp the hold
Nice job. Glad you made it out and come back safe. It’s always interesting taking people out for their first time. I remember mine. Have fun cleaning those things. The ones shorter than 14" are great scaled, gutted, headed and DEEP FRIED! The phins get all nice and crunchy kindof like kettle cooked potato chips. Thanks for sharing your day with us. Wish I could have been on the big pond yesterday or today. Hopefully when April 1 rolls around, I’ll be able to break away for a BSB/Vermillion Snapper run. The bliners should be thick since the 6 month ban!

I learned from the best of you Phin! The best way I can find is drop all your lines right below the Sonar. I actually had to lift lines for a minute to make sure that they were actually fish … Thanks Ssharda…Can’t wait to catch some B-liners in the mix. Hope to get back out with owner of the boat and his kids over their spring break. Got 2 weekends to find good weather. I hate cleaning fish all myself. 1. I’m not very good at it, getting better 2. It takes me FOREVER. Took me 1 1/2 or so this a.m. to clean the 43 fish.

PR,
Good A-Z trip report.
Fishing is the easy part. Trailering, cleaning and cutting are 9/10ths of the job.
May want to take some line off each reel - down on concerte is abrasive to the line (reels & guides too).
Good job man! Very happy to see that your day went well and that the ocean cooperated. As long as your safe ad having a good time, everything else is gravy!
Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.

one more trip under your belt with a safe and successful return…
