Took a buddy from work out on the boat last monday. It was calm when we launched around 7. Located some menhaden on the intracoastal and hit the creeks for some reds. After about an hour into the rising tide our first rod goes off. My buddy was able to wrestle in his first red at 27.5 inches. He was excited and couldn’t wait for another so we tossed out another line. The next red must have had some more size because it darted under a dock. He was able to pull it out just to end up losing it right under the boat. He wanted to land a shark, so we headed to the jetties. It was a rough ride and the jetties weren’t much better. I tossed out a blue crab with the hopes of bringing in a bonnethead. After 20 minutes of rocking around I decided to bring the lines in. To my surprise I noticed a nice sized bonnethead following my blue crab to the boat. I stopped reeling and he nailed it. The drag started screaming and I handed my rod to my buddy. We boated the 43 incher. The wind started howling so we decided to fish in the channel not too far from the ravennel. Ive never fished it but it was calm water so we decided to give it a shot. We sat for 30 minutes with no hits when the first rod started screaming. I knew this was a big fish after I battled it for 20 minutes on my 6000 combo. After it surfaced I realized it was a shark that had to be over 5 foot. I got it next to the boat to remove the circle hook but it shook it free as I grabbed the line. My buddy wanted a similar shark so we tossed out some live menhaden. The rod went off within 10 minutes and another battle began. After a 5 minute fight I thought a shark would surface, but to my amazement a hefty 38 inch red went into the net. I was happy for him, but at the same time I was jealous because that would have been my personal best lol. Good day on the water and we got a work out.
