I decided to take a risk last Monday with the weather. I figured the rain wasn’t supposed to show up til afternoon, so I launched the boat at 0630. It was muggy but calm on the water. The harbor was flat. I got lucky netting some menhaden and decided to fish for some reds on the last half of the falling tide. Within 10 minutes of tossing out the menhaden, my rod bent in half. I rushed to tighten the drag on my battle 6000, but by time I accomplished it the red had ran under a dock and pulled the hook right out of its mouth! My next hit yielded a decent 27 inch red that fought like a mid 30 incher. Low tide arrived so I went and netted some mullet. I make a decent run to another spot a few miles away. I threw the mullet on the bottom in about 5 feet of water. 20 minutes later my rear rod starts bobbing. I tighten up the drag for what I thought was a slot sized red. To my surprise, a fat 21 inch trout surfaced! Doesn’t sound like much to some, but its my personal best. I continued fishing for about another hour and managed to snag an 18 inch flounder and a 17 inch trout. All mullet on the bottom in less than 6 foot of water. It started to get windy and hot so I headed out. At the ramp at 1400. Not a bad trip.
