Forecast was good but chance of showers and storms. Forecast was accurate on the way out. Storms stayed north of us until headed home.
Ride back a bit different. Just like in a series of recent posts with a change in wind direction to from the north went quickly from 2-3 feet on a long interval to 2-3 feet on a long interval plus 2-3 feet on a short interval from a different direction. Still only 2-3 feet but totally different ride.
Nothing bad but glad to be in an enclosed helm, it would have been wet two ways - spray and rain - otherwise.
North and east of the Triple Ledge. Senor SiriusXM said there was a strong temperature change which we headed towards. True enough - some really warm water next to some more normal. Hottest water was 78.5. Found some weed clumps and lines near the temperature change and started dragging.
We put 3 of 4 (all gaffer) Mahi in the box, released a sailfish and were very briefly almost connected to a blue marlin. The sail was no slouch, but the marlin put on the show of the day. Even not actually hooked, the jumps were amazing. Angry fish.
What made the day’s fishing interesting is we were only in 150 to 170 feet of water. Pretty shallow for a marlin this time of year.
Great day to end the season on, good crew and some nice fish. The forecast is not great the next few days and headed back to Montana to escape the heat for a while this weekend.
