Last Sunday buck hall area

Took my son and a 18yr old newbie fishing. The kids were slinging more shrimp off the hook than they were getting to the water but anyhow,I kept a dozen shrimp and let them have the tank. My 8yr old caught 2 short trout and a 19" red, 18 yr old caught a short red and a 16" sheep, and in my dozen shrimp I caught a 17" trout a 19" red and the unbelievable part. A snook, I’m pretty dang sure, upper 20’s in length was lost after a whale of a fight. It made 2 leaps clear out the water and finally had it beside the boat,18yr old armed with the net, I recognized it and yelled f,ing snook and the kid jumped back as if I screamed JAWS. Fish took off again with one more leap and 3rd or 4th pull ,line popped. Was using 12lb flourocarbon leader, normally use 23 segaur. Before anyone bashes me too much, I’m pretty sure black line and all it was a snook.

Pretty rare for Snook around here. Are you sure it was not a Lady Fish? They can get some size, are known for their acrobatics, and have a harder mouth for throwing hooks.

I’m all but positive. The black line is hard to let go. I’ve never seen one in person but many on tv. I hated to even mention it bc I’m sure one of the community a holes will call me an idiot.

Well I would have been just as surprised had you said it was a Gar until I caught one of those last summer in a nearby salt creek. Never can tell what you are going to hook into, which makes saltwater angling in the Lowcountry all the more enjoyable!

I’ve seen a post on this site reporting a snook catch a couple of years ago. Don’t know if the guy was telling a fib though. Personally, i’ve never caught or seen one this far north, but wouldn’t surprise me if it was a snook.

I believe it. There are snook in Charleston for sure. Caught one in the Stono 4 years ago. Trying to download pic

Anythings possible, especially near Bulls Bay or St Helena. And with the water near 90 it wont be long before snooks get here I think
