Last Week Reports

Fished Last Saturday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Saturday we caught 7, 2 keepers
Wednesday we had a bunch bites, but only managed 2 to the boat. Had kind of a green crew, but got my son’s friend his first striper.
Thursday we got shut out, lots of bites and fish hitting the water around us, but no luck

is it just me, or does something look odd about this striper face? looks like a penguin or something

Those overbite/underbite fish are showing up more and more. I have caught some crazy ones before. 2 years ago I caught one that looked like a bull dolphin with a big rounded forehead…lol…

haha i guess thats what we get playing with genetics on the hybrids

I caught this little fella on Clark Hill and he had the round nose. I could only guess that this is from where they bump up to the walls at the hatchery and this causes the nose to be rounded like stocked trout. I’ve caught several around this size with round noses. This little fella not only tried to swallow my blue back, but he also had another blue back sticking out of his mouth. It would be interesting to see what these fish will look like when they reach 30 pounds.

Yep, the face of first fish looks a bit odd, but then there is a bunch of variation in us humans too… The Clarks Hill fish is not all that uncommon, but the snub nose fish don’t usually survive all that well. It has to do with artificial propagation at the hatchery during early development. The hatchery dudes sometimes see a high incidence of it, but can’t tie it to any thing in particular.
