Buddy and I went on our maiden shrimping excursion last Thurs in BB. Put in at Garris and didn’t think too much of the wind at that point but man, once we got into BB, we were facing a NE 15-20 that made the S end of the bay a washing machine with 2+ ft chop.
We were still riding on adrenaline thinking we could tough it out in a 16 foot aluminum bass boat. (**() the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
We put on 1 test pole with 2 baits, waited about 15 mins (trying to keep the nose of the boat pointed upwind as waves were crashing over the bow), got visited by flipper and then were ready to make the first ever cast…1 shrimp (but he was big!). Threw a few more times with zeros, but before we got too much liquid courage, decided it wasn’t the safest or most comfortable conditions and ended up calling it quits and headed to the beach to surf fish and then The Boathouse for rooftop drinks.
Consequently, the conditions on Friday were superb so Mother Nature was having a good laugh at our expense.
So, we’re thinking of giving is a go Fri PM in the harbor area. Low tide is 11, not sure if that’s good or bad. Probably wouldn’t get out until after the little ones are in bed around 8.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
