You are very observant. LOL

Saw that fish on ice after being gutted and it was huge. I think it was caught on a bandit reel. That takes away any chance at a record. Probably brought about 4-500 dollars at market though.

i believe the FEH is a commercial bandit rigger.

He told you... It's a Black grouper . Very similar, but look at the fins and marbling on the skin.

By the way… Phin is going to be upset that a diver didn’t kill this one!!! Charlestondiving, how many 100lb black groupers have you killed? Aw heck… Nevermind…

Yes he was caught on a bandit, 200lb camo leader and a 13/0 circle hook that came close to being straightend. The wire was running off the starboard stern when he hit. I managed a couple of turns and he was thirty yards off port side, backed me down 13 turns and got in the bottom. Luckily worked him out of the structure. That fish was smoking, definitely a hand full.

I bet that was an awesome sight to see as you started seeing color in the water column. I can only imagine what you guys were feeling when you floated that one up to the top. Congrats!

And I think that your last post explains exactly why more recreational guys don’t catch fish like this… It’s because they don’t have the right equipment!

Skinnee I think your correct on tackle. I used 125 most of the time for a couple of years and switch to 200 and started catching more and bigger Grouper. I beleave you get more bites with smaller line but break off 75% more. That was a battle fishing solo.

Phin is going to have to get a TRX 50 with #400 line now! He better get one of them bowflexes and start working out too!!

I will not get into a battle of wits with a man who is completely unarmed!

When do I get to come on a day trip to help you so you don't have to fish solo? Also, is that a personal best for you?

I believe that would be a five or six day trip skinneej.

Thats a long time on the water.

Wow. Good fish.

I couldn't handle that. Those guys are tough... But, I could get a ride back home a little early...

Nice gag. What did it weigh? What port were you fishing out of? How deep?

Beautiful Fish!
