Fished out of MI last weekend two days before the full moon and had a great trip with some great friends. Grouper bit later in the day. Couldn’t get away from the triggerfish.

Nice job. The ocean is INFESTED with triggers and vermillions right now… They must have heard about the upcoming SAFMC closure. It’s almost like their laws and regulations are much more powerful than the natural cycles of ebb and flow in fish stocks…
We fished between 104 and 107’ with a water temp of 80.2.
We threw back as many triggers as we kept and were done with our limits of vermillions within an hour and a half or so. I can’t say I’ve ever been into triggers of that quantity and quality.
I went back and reviewed the new regulations, triggers and sea-bass are not covered with the amendments.

Do the proposed changes include Trigger and blackfish? If not, then these species will soon have a LOT more pressure.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but have you all been paying attention?
In an effort to save the endangered RED SNAPPER they are proposing CLOSING ALL, yes ALL, bottom fishing to reduce the chance of accidentally catching a red snapper.
This means NO fishing for, not catching and keeping, but even wetting a line for:
-triggers
-b-liners
-black sea bass
-ALL grouper
All snapper
-porgies
-pinkies
-grunts
-pinfish
-AJ’s
-cobia(unless your pitching baits up top, sightfishing)
tilefish
-ANYTHING YOU MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY CATCH A SNAPPER DOING, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DO.
I read that as well as the proposed area closures. Definitely interesting. I don’t know enough on the background of the individuals in charge of the closures or the science behind the closures to hang them for their intentions. I will have to do some more research before I formulate an opinion on any of it. I do not want the ocean closed down to fishing. That seems a little extreme. However, I am entirely in favor of protecting a species that is struggling.

Wow, surprised with the whole bladder thing. How deep were you?

100’. In the Pacific they are real common around floating debris and logs. I’ve seen some pictures of BIG yellowfin crashing them at the surface, swallow them whole with the spike and all.
