Went out with a friend on his new boat for his first offshore trip to start showing him the basics and hopefully get some meat in the cooler. Fished out of edisto friday and saturday
5/11- Cleared the A can at 4am and had a long slow rough ride out to the 226. had the first dolphin in the boat about 745am which was a relief. Picked at the dolphin all morning with as many knock downs as catches. I was glad we had some meat in the cooler with it being his first trip off. We had out only tangle of the weekend at around 1230 and as were untangling 3 lines with the baits about 20 feet behind the boat when Tim says hey whats that behind the pink skirt, i looked back and see a bill slicing back and forth and charging the bait, i told him not to let him take the bait to pull it away if he tries to eat it and unfortunately he ate it about 4 feet behind the boat. 2 rods were screaming and 1 bait in his mouth due to the tangle⦠We got a good 1 1/2-2 muinute show of tailwalking and jumping behind the boat before the line cut, it was mine and his first look at a blue and was a pretty awsome sight one i wont ever forget, i wouldnt dare guess a weight or size but getting such a close look he was bigger than i was easily. Ended the day with 7 dolphin all gaffers
5/12- Headed out a little bit later clearing the A can at 430 and heading for the spots we marked around the 226, ride out this morning was much nicer running about 35 the way out. First 45min to an hour were slow until i saw an explosion on the right rigger and a tld 25 was screamin, i grabed it and then a shark came skyrocketing out of the water, after almost getting spolled twice and having to run him down we got him bout 8 foot from the boat where he shook his head and that was it, cut the leader. It was ab out a 6 foot mako and man they are a pretty fish, picked at the dolphin the rest of the day, all pretty good size, one nice bull, again dont know the weight but measured 56inches. Ended the day with 7 and stopped at the edisto banks on the way ba
