Late report for Feb 16

Decided to take my new 35 Proline out to do a little bottom fishing with some friends of mine and had an amazing day. Stop at the 60 to catch some bait then headed out a bit further. At the 10 fathom ledge we spotted multiple whales and wanted to get closer, while we were whale watching we encounter the three sharks skimming the top of the water, one well over 18 feet long. One of my buddies said that it was a Tiger, I don’t know sharks that well but it was the largest one I had ever seen, It could of swallowed me whole. I am a big boy weighing 250lbs. After seeing the whales and the giant sharks we didn’t even care about catching fish, however we pushed on. Got to one of the spots and wound up pulling up some real nices Reds Snappers and Some Large Seabass, No Groupers unfortunately but still had an amazing day. We took pics of the Whales and The monster sharks but only had the cell phones so none of them really came out good. Will be back on the water on Wednesday.

Key West 152 with a 70 yami 2-stroke

good report. wish you had your camera. would love to have seen the pics of the whales and the sharks.

Nice…did you find good bait at the 60?

The sharks were probably Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus, they are found in temperate waters of both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They are usually observed by humans at or near the surface and have been sighted along almost every coastline bordering both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These sharks are the second largest shark only to the whale shark , average 18-33 feet in length. I have a picture that was taken from a Georgia DNR flight survey recently where they spotted twenty of these together. I’ll post tonight when I get home.

we saw a pod of basking sharks on sat…pretty awesome to see…

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up and loudly proclaiming, “WOW! What a ride!”

That ain’t nothing! Look at this pic from the last time we went diving!!!

You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving north.
