Late report for monday 3/10

Got off of work a little early monday afternoon and figured i might as well go fish for a few hours. since it stays light until 8 pm:slightly_smiling_face: this is now sometimes an option:smiley: I decided to try a spot that Looked like a good place for red fish to hold upon a falling high tide. I have fished this spot several times on a low tide but never had a bite. It just looked like a spot that had to hold fish at some point. I got there and fished while cruising the bank with the trolling motor and about half way down the stretch i caught a 17 incher. cruised a bit more and no more bites. So, i went back down stream and started the stretch of bank line over. Got about 20 yrds from where i caught the fish and got another 17 incher. Next cast, bam a 20 incher. Sat there for about an hour and a half and ended up catching 11 more from 16 inches to 23 inches. All of these fish were very feisty and fought very hard. Not lethargic at all. The water was fairly clear and temp was 57-58.All fish were caught on gulp shrimp in sugar and spice glow and natural. I missed several on the scrimps a one on a pink swimming mullet. Hit one more spot on the way to the ramp but no bites. I havent been able to fish much in the past few months so this was very fun. I cant wait to go again!!

Good report. Sure is nice to be able to get back out there again!

Thanks man. It was a fun and beautiful day. I even caught one tagged fish but he was really small and i didnt see the tag until he was in the air on the way back in the water:roll_eyes: Things are going alot better. Dad is finally out of the hospital(as of wed) and in rehab. He cant walk yet but they say that he will soon and that he will be able to fish again, which was a big concern of his.He is back in our home town now, so at least when i go visit I can go fishing at the house rather than being in Atlanta sitting at the hospital. We are certainly thankful for all the prayers. It is truly a miracle that he was able to survive, let alone make such drastic improvements. The doctors say they are more than amazed at how well he is recovering.

First of all, glad to hear your father is doing better. He’ll be back on the water in no time!

ā€œa spot that Looked like a good place for red fish to hold upon a falling high tideā€

How would you describe this spot? What characteristics caught your eye? Don’t want the specific location, just trying to improve my scouting game. Thanks in advance.

ā€œI’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right nowā€¦ā€

Don’t know you or your Dad but glad tom hear he is on the road to recovery. Also, glad to hear someone is catching fish - finally! Well done.

Great job and good to hear about your dad doing well, God Bless

Local Boy, Just having fun.

Glad to hear this! God is good!

I’ve been under the weather since last May. Had surgery and finished chemo last weekend. I’m now pronounced ā€œcuredā€ and regainng my strength and health. I’m glad to hear your Dad is doing well. Some of us old guys are pretty tough on the inside.
I have managed to get on the water some this past winter and posted under the striper forum a couple of times. One of the things that helped keep me occupied during this time was reading this website. Another is several good friends that took me out on lake Murray fishing and ā€œbabysatā€ me, being sure I could fish without too much effort. I have enjoyed your posts even though I’m basically a freshwater fisherman. If any of you guys ever head for lake Murray and would like to know where to start looking for perch, largemouth or stripers just post your question on the striper site. I’ll be glad to give you what little insight I might have. Also, the Midlands striper club might be another place to post questions. Especially if they don’t have a tournament scheduled near the time of your questions. The stripers move around a lot on Murray depending mostly on the season, water temp and availability of baitfish. Summertime they will normally be near the lower end of the lake in water as deep as 100’. If you start at daylight, live herring on downrods usually produce a ā€œ5 and doneā€ limit before 9:00 AM. They are fun to catch and pound for pound fight pretty well. Live herring are usually for sale at the landing at the dam during the summer months. Good fishing to all.

Thanks guys. Glad you are cured spoonmaster, that is wonderful! Balck Bart,It was an area on a bend in a creek with lots of oysters around a dock. On the falling tide the current between the dock and the shore and runs right over the oysters creating a good place for the fish to hold up and wait for bait to wash through. The fish were sitting right on the back side of the oysters. After i caught a few they moved about 10 yrds to the front side of the oyster, so it was taking longer cast to get them. I also lost at least 10 jig heads to the oysters. I am sure it does it on a rising tide too but you cant fish it with the current going the other way.

Nice report and I haven’t been on the water in quite awhile so I’m now reading nice reports of this nature.
