Been raining like hell here lately, which made me remember that my t-top canvas is old and sh*tty and has lots of tiny pinholes in it. Since I’ve been wanting a new toy for a while, I used this as excuse to get this…

The wife did not understand the math… $200-300 to have somebody make one for me, or $750 for a sewing machine plus $100 in materials to make it myself? made sense to me.
I used Weblon white with grey underside to help cut glare. Here’s old top and new material:

Used old top as a pattern, my top is about 58"x71". You can see that there is a double layer that runs along the outside to provide extra support for grommets. Cut 1.5" strips of material for this. I traced around a bowl to make consistent rounded corners.

All these strips get sewn together in a continuous loop, and then binding sewn along inside edge.

Then this loop gets sewn into place with another strip of binding along the outside edge.

Then the inner edge gets topstiched to hold it down.

Finished sewing.

Used the old top to mark grommet locations, punched holes and set grommets.

Man, that’s something to be proud of! Great job!!
Got the top on today!
Spent a good bit of time cleaning up the t-top tubing while it was all accessible. Didn’t really need to, but I also de-rigged my electronics box to get it out of the way and because I wanted to add some lights.
Bare frame:

Laid out the top and used zip ties to get it positioned right and some initial tension

Laced it up with dacron cord. Used 50 ft, apparently I needed 51 ft - ran out one grommet before the end!
Will have to add a little extra length to finish.

Guess tomorrow I’ll be making a run to west marine to get some more cord and finish it up! Then reinstall e-box, antenna, and nav light.

Wolfie - that does look great. Just replaced my canvas on my T-Top the week before Memorial Day. Actually my 17 year old son took great pride in taking the old hardware off and the old canvas off, then he wanted to install the new canvas. I have to give him props for a job well done. I will post some pictures of mine without canvas then with new canvas on another thread so as to not hijack your thread. Again, looks great!
