I know you aren’t supposed to wade in and around there, but does anyone know if it’s OK to launch a yak there ?
You can but beware. The currents are very strong there when the tide changes. Many people have perished there. If you are not aware, there is a quick drop off in the middle and all the water from the flats past the inter-coastal waterway drain out there. It can be very dangerous. All that being said I see people launch there all the time. Wear your life jacket!

I wouldn’t launch a yak there…if you want to get back behind Sullivans Island, use the launch at Station 26.
Thanks for the info and words of caution. I ended up launching at Station 26 on Sullivan’s Island and fishing around the ends of several of those rock groins. Caught 3 small flounder.

ive lauched there a couple times and not to beat the dead horse but yes be careful with the current. id avoid it if its really choppy out but if its nice and calm i didnt have much trouble whether drifting or anchored. i only tried there a couple times but pretty sure i got some nice trout outta there.
Ok, so I demoed a new kayak today. I put in on the back side of IOP. I paddled into Breach’s Inlet out to the sand bar. Fished for a minute and let myself drift while checking my GPS. My drift was 3.8mph. Without paddling I almost hit 4mph! I think these are the strongest currents I have encountered anywhere in Charleston. Hopefully this illustrates the dangers of fishing there.
