my question is what knots to you use with it,it doesn’t tie as good as mono,so i need some help!!!i heard there are special swivels to attach it to a mono leader,is this true,if so where do i get it??
Slide the braided line off the lead. And cut the lead off. (It will easily break if you just pull the lead.) Apparently the lead adds no strength to the line. I always pull 6 inches to a foot off to give me tying room. I then will tie a polymer not to a swivel. (didn’t know there was a special one) I use a small 50lb spro swivel so that I can reel it through the rod eyes and line guide on the reel. I normally use about a 10 to 20 foot of mono or floro leader. That is what I have been told and it seems to work. But if anyone has a better idea I am all ears!

Ctool- I’d add one thing to Scouting’s instructions. There’s a slicker way to join the swivel to the leadcore. Strip back the dacron jacket 6-8inches and break off the lead. Make a loop and thread the swivel on it. Then, thread the jacket back through itself as if you were making a wind-on leader. Finished it with a drop of flexible epoxy at the end of the jacket and you’re done.
You get a smooth connection that goes easily through the guides.
Yea, what tomb said! Thanks for the tip tomb, you learn something new every day. I will pass that on cause I have had problems with knots that are bigger than the swivel and caused problems.

no one told me how much easier lead core tangles…holy smokes,i only tried 2 lines…what a mess…i may go back to mono…heck i haven’t even gotten my first hit trolling yet!!
but i can hook trees and i am getting real good at getting my lures back:wink:
ctoolman,
Hope you had a good weekend. I tried to catch bait Friday before daylight but I’m going to need more practice with the castnet. I trolled after sunrise and came up with a 5lb blue cat, 3/4 lb largemouth and the smallest striper I have ever seen. It was about 8" and maybe 1/2 lb. It was a good looking fish with perfect markings. I released it in good condition with hopes of catching it again next year after it puts on a few pounds.
Good luck to all,
Taz
Ctoolman, are you going to be at hartwell this weekend. Me and my work bud are planning on fishing Sunday afternoon. I assume you are using colored lead core line. How many colors were you trolling? You probally know by now but you can’t stop the boat with lead core it sinks everything. You will loose your plug and half of your line if you are not careful. Let me know about this weekend maybe we can get together and watch my buddy work his magic.

ctool, A suggestion for you. A lot of guys pulling leadcore will graph the area they plan to fish and map the creek run between the trees. Then they create a “trail” in the GPS that follows the creek, and pull baits up and down the trail. You’re still going to side-swipe a tree from time to time, but you’re pulling the baits along the same route the fish are moving on. Seems to work.
scotin,i should be out there sat/sun and i will be getting a late start on monday…dentist appt:frowning_face:
i usually put in at portman…not sure where i will fish at first but i have been given some more tips this week of where i should try…probably around t-011 to t14 or back near the dam…i know they are there i just can’t get the suckers to bite regular…
i can turn my radio(vhf) on if there is a certain channel you are on…
or just look for the boston whaler with the blue t-top…the boat looks like it would belong to someone who knows how to fish…but that is just an illusion…
