i used the shakespeare sale to build my trolling aresnal. i set up two rods with 25# mono for use with u-rigs and i was going to set up the other 2 with leadcore.
what is your set up? mono backing > leadcore > mono leader? what line strengths? what do you pull on the terminal end? bucktails? live bait?
i have 2 spools of 15# leadcore - 200 yards. some guys on another forum told me they use heavier wgt and shorter length.
Hope you got some big reels for the leadcore, I use the 27lb lc but a lot of guys up here on Hartwell use the 45lb to keep the fish out of the trees.
I have loaded up a couple of TLD 15’s but really like a level wind reel for lc fishing.
I have picked up a couple of the pflueger contender 50’s in level wind and you can get almost 200 yards of lc line on them. I know the penn 345 GTI’s will hold 200 yards of the 45lb lc line if you want to go that heavy.
I use about 50’ of cajun red line for leader in 30lb test and most of the time I am also using the 1.5 oz roadrunners with a trailer.
I also have picked up some 3 and 4 oz jigs but I think the roadrunners draw more strikes because of the spinner.
i ended up with 2 tidewater 20’s both rigged with 25# clear mono to pull u-rigs and 2 tidewater 30’s. the 30’s have 330 yard capacity of 30#. i got 17# lc in 200 yard, 10 color. that was the heaviest and only length that sportsman’s crackhouse had. i haven’t rigged it yet and still not sure if that’s what i need for lake murray. probably big enough for murray, but maybe not for clark hill. i have 1 roll of LC still in the package so i may take it back, not sure. somehow the other roll of lc has no package so i may be stuck.

My understanding is that all the leadcore lines will give you the same depth regardless of diameter. Not sure about that but it came right from the mouth of one of the best lead core line fisherman that ever hit Hartwell, Joe Griswald.
Those 30’s should do well with the 15 lb but keep in mind you will normally catch fish that will average 10-12lbs on leadcore
I have even picked up some 3 and 4 oz jigs and tried them to get a little deeper
Another thing that helps greatly is a chip for your gps that shows the bottom, most of the time I run a split screen on my lowrance to show both contours/channels and the fish finder and honestly most of the time I am watching the map portion more than the ff

thanks T. i have yet to rig up the leadcore. i bought 2 packs, one has lost its packaging somehow, so i’ll keep that one. i think i might return the other leadcore spool and pick up another u rig since the one i was fishing with this weekend is still in the lake.

I have left several there myself:frowning_face:
I use one of those retrievers but still sometimes I will loose one.
I pulled urigs for an hour or so this am and saw some fish break the surface and a lot of guys freeling the main points. I was only on the water to check out a new prop before headed to IOP and just pulled them for a little bit.
Fishing on Hartwell should be great next 2-4 weeks then July will roll around and it will be time for leadcore:smiley:
