Lead for fishing weights

Not me, but a good price if you want some bulk lead for melting your own sinkers.

Interesting, as going scrap price is only $0.30/pound…

Where?

B&D in N. Charleston. It’s on their website as such, not sure how up to date, as last time I checked (6 months or so ago), it was at right around $1.

Have you gotten it before? How clean is it? I just posted this up because I don’t need it and it looks like it would be very easy to deal with. Nothing worse than trying to melt and dealing with grease/grime/dirt.

That price is what the scrap yard is PAYING for scrap…

That’s how I base the price I’m willing to pay for scrap lead. I have been paying about $0.20 per pound over the past few years getting scrap lead from wheel weights and from fiber optic cable “shields” from an AT&T guy.

As far as melting and dealing with grease/grime/dirt, it’s not that bad. Tire weights are terrible, but I usually just melt a lot, and skim all the junk off of the top with a wire strainer/spoon thingy. Dirt settles to the bottom. I then use a stainless steel serving spoon to scoop the good stuff out of the pot (I use a cast iron pot).

I admittedly don’t make fishing weights though, I make decoy weights using a muffin tin and some solid strand wire stuck down in the lead. I’m not terribly concerned about the “look” or the “quality” of the finished product, so dirt/grime/etc isn’t as much as a deal for me.

Your mileage may vary!
