Went offshore this weekend. Havent been in sometime. Realized my big egg and bank weights have dwindled down a good bit. I have a mold for banks (8,10,12,14oz). But only mold I have for eggs are 1/8-3oz. Anyone have a 8 or 10oz egg mold I could borrow?
I could post in the offshore section but I know most of yall and dont have a problem asking yall. Some people dont like to loan things to strangers.
I might … I’ll check when I get home … haven’t poured any lead since we left Florida so I don’t remember off hand what all we have … I’ll let you know this evening
I didn’t forget you … Well, to be honest maybe I did for a day or two … But I remembered it now and that’s all that matters … I’ll post pics of what I have and you can tell me if its anything you need …
Anywhere I can. I have alot from old cast nets and just weights I have bought at yard sales and flea markets. Found 20# for 10$ at the flea market while back. I also used to be a plumber and would find alot during remodeling jobs in roof flanges, p traps, and shower pans.
Also I have traded weights to people. They give me 10-15# of old weight and I will give them 4-6# of new sizes they want.
If u find some And have too much let me know haha I can always use more. If you have connections to any shooting ranges or tire stores that is the first place to start. Only problem is your usually a day late at places like that. Well with me anyway.
Here ya go … let me know if you can use any of this …
After looking at it all, I know this isn’t what you’re looking for, but that’s just what I was able to put my hands in in the workshop … I have more in storage - that just takes some work to get at …
do you have to drill a hole for the line to go through do does the mold do that? i have a bunch of lead shot from when my dad reloaded his own shells, would that lead be good to melt? how much does a mold for 1oz through 3oz egg sinkers cost?
When u buy a mold for eggs it comes with a wire with a handle on it. U insert it then pour the lead and then remove the wire and your hoke will be formed. A good mold runs 30-40$.
If you have never poured lead, its a learning experience and will get better with practice. Its more than heating some lead and pouring in a mold.
Also be careful when handling fresh lead. Use gloves. Also melt outside and stand up wind from it burning. Tip. When u think the lead is hot enough and ready to pour, go ahead and wait another 5 minutes. .lol
I’ve been using the leads off old cast nets for many years. I usualy tear up at least 2 nets a year. I use a shrubbery trimmer to cut the line and retrieve the weights, I also cut some in half for lighter weights. I buy beads at craft stores for less than $2.00 a hundred and use a barrel swivel. need more weight add another. I’ve noticed on some of the new cheaper nets that they have plastic coated steel weights
