Double uni on the boat, FG at the house
I actually use a small tool for a nail knot. Usually small enough to go thru guides without any issue. If the knot does hit guides and bothers me, I just shorten the leader some and don’t reel the knot through the guides prior to casting.
FG knot is easy to tie on the boat if you put the rod in the rod holder and bite the braid line. FG for me.

My Favorite knot for larger offshore fish is the PR Knot (search PR knot or Page Ranking knot), It is the strongest, smoothest knot I have ever used, never having one fail on me. Recently I have been using it for all my Braid to mono or fluorocarbon knots, down to 20# braid and mono. For lighter braid to mono knots I like the Alberto knot.
The FG knot is SMALL.
It goes thru guides w/ ease. Can slightly hear it on real in…but don’t know it’s there on cast.
As a novice w/ this knot, it takes some time to tie and I didn’t get one tight and it pulled out when I pulled on it.
Nice knot…THANKS

I’ve always just used a small barrel swivel and tied one end to the leader and the other to the line or braid with clinch knots. It always holds pretty well. Is there a reason I shouldn’t be doing it this way??
The swivel won’t pass through the rod guides so it limits the length of your leader. The swivel is more visible than a knot so it’s less “stealthy.” The swivel is more likely to get hung up around structure than a knot would be. With a swivel, you’ll have three knots (top of swivel, bottom of swivel and at the hook/lure) versus just two with a leader knot (leader knot itself and at the hook/lure).
One thing a swivel does well is reduce line twists.
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
Your best bets for a slim, strong, main line to leader knot are the PR knot or the FG knot. The FG is similar to the PR but gives you the advantage of tiring without the bobbin.
