Leader to Line knot?

Like to use braided line and mono leader /spinning or cast. However, the new rods have very small tip guide and the knot catches on the tip every time.

What is a good knot to use that will run thru?
10-20lb.
Salt & Fresh.

uni-to-uni, good for variable sizes of line, small relatively snag free knot. wind on leaders are a class of their own though, and I’m not very well-versed.

variation of the uni to uni.
Instead of trying to twist the tag end through that loop, I hold the bend in my fingers and make the twists on the outside, then push the tag end back through the bend your holding.
It makes it much easier to tie in the wind.

Inside out uni to uni.

FG Knot. PITA the first 2-3 times you tie it. After that you will be sold on it. You tube for instructions.

I use an Albright.
But whatever you use, don’t tie it once and go in the water.
Practice while you watch TV or whatever you do on your free time.
You’ll get the knot down so when you break off and the fish are biting, you’ve got the knot down already.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

don’t use a leader. tie line direct to bait. eliminate another potential point of failure

FG here! Only way to go in my opinion

P-K, you tying braid straight to lure or mono? If tying braid to lure, you might be doing yourself a disservice when fish are finicky…braid looks like rope underwater…especially this time of year. Uni is my .02, from experience from being outfished on same boat/same lure with a partner that had a fluoro leader…

Hi TP
The only time I use a leader is on the end of a fly line for obvious reasons. The leader is made with barrel knots and attached to the line with a nail knot.

If you are concerned with your line being visible, you should spool with fluoro or use a magic marker on your braid to knock off the shine. The only time you really need a leader on braid is if you are getting hung up a lot on structure. The knot will fail before the line and will keep you from breaking a rod.

As far a your buddy outfishing you because he was using fluoro leaders … no comment.

Used to use Uni to Uni until I saw and tried the FG.
FG is the way to go. Good U-tube video showing how to tie it.

google “crazy Alberto”. I absolutely love this knot for tying fluoro to braid. My St Croix Legend Xtreme Inshore rod has microguides at the tip and it goes through with no hangs ups at all. Super easy to tie in the boat or kayak.

I use this for all my braid to fluoro connections while fishing inshore. Have yet to experience a failure. And it’s super easy to tie quickly.

FG. video on youtube like somebody else said. uni knots bother me when they tick thru the tip top guide during cast/retrieve.

Why have they gone to small guides?

I use an FG knot, but I won’t tie one on the water. The FG is a super low profile knot, and I have yet to have one fail. It is a pain in the butt to tie in the boat, so I just tie a double uni if I’m on the water. This is how I learned to tie the FG knot → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjzUb5QRKuk

I used the FG knot this past weekend, and I’ve got to say this is a very easy and strong knot. Somehow my grub made its way onto someones dock, and while I was pulling on the line. The know from the leader to my hook broke, but the FG knot didn’t.
