when fishing for reds on the flats or anywhere do you use leaders? if so what kind? thanks for the help.
I normally fly fish onthe flats but when I do bait fish I use a 2ft 15lb flouro or a 2 ft wire depending on how close to the edge I am

I usually use about 2 feet of 25-30lb Flouro leader on all my inshore rigs. Most of my reels are spooled with braid, so a leader of Flouro or mono makes it much easier to re-tie and switch baits. I have had very few break offs with this set up, but I do change my leaders often if they start to get frayed.
For what its worth, I did try going leaderless for a bit when wading for tails, and had a few break offs (the knot could have slipped???), so I have gone back to the leaders.
